CCTV Office Chair Quality Issues

Admin October 10, 2026

The office chairs exposed by CCTV have various quality issues, with a relatively high non-compliance rate among some products, posing risks such as base fractures, caster detachment, formaldehyde exceeding standards, and even explosions.

1. Prominent Explosion Risk of Pneumatic Swivel Chairs
Among the non-compliant products, pneumatic swivel chairs account for an extremely high proportion. Out of 21 batches of non-compliant office chairs, 17 batches are swivel chairs. The core issue lies in the use of inferior pneumatic rods: some pneumatic rods have overly thin tube walls and cannot withstand normal pressure; the inert gases are impure or compressed air is used as a substitute, leading to unstable internal pressure; and there are even cases where no explosion-proof steel plates are installed. These defects may trigger explosions of the pneumatic rods, causing serious injuries to users.

2. Fracture Risk Due to Insufficient Structural Strength
The tube walls of the five-star feet of some office chairs are too thin, and their strength does not meet the standards, resulting in base fractures. Such problems often occur among users with relatively large body weights, and the fractured bases may lead to falling accidents. In addition, caster detachment is also a common problem. Inferior casters are not firmly connected to the chair body and are prone to detachment during movement, affecting usage safety.

3. Health Hazards from Excessive Chemical Substances
The formaldehyde emission of some office chairs exceeds the standards. Long-term exposure may cause respiratory diseases, allergic reactions, and even cancer. Formaldehyde mainly comes from chair surface materials, adhesives, etc. To reduce costs, inferior products often use raw materials with high formaldehyde content and have not undergone sufficient volatilization treatment.

4. Stability and Durability Defects
Some products have stability issues, such as unreasonable backrest tilt angles and center-of-gravity design defects, which can easily cause users to fall backward. In addition, their strength does not meet the standard requirements. When people with slightly larger body weights sit on them, the chair surfaces, backrests, or armrests are prone to damage, shortening the product's service life.

5. Supervision and Sampling Results Reflect the Industry Status
According to the sampling inspection by the State Administration for Market Regulation, among the 90 batches of products from 90 enterprises in 11 provinces and municipalities, 21 batches were non-compliant, with a non-compliance rate of 23.3%. This data indicates that in the office chair industry, there are still some enterprises that pursue profits while ignoring quality. Consumers need to be vigilant, choose regular brands, and check product certification information.
