CCTV-Exposed Issues with Office Chairs
The issues with office chairs exposed by CCTV mainly include explosion risks, component quality problems, excessive formaldehyde levels, stability issues, and a relatively high rate of non-compliant batches.

Explosion Risks: Some non-compliant office chairs pose explosion risks, primarily due to the use of low-quality gas springs. If the gas spring is of substandard quality, such as having overly thin walls, impure inert gases, or using compressed air instead of inert gases, it may lead to explosions during use. Additionally, excessive heat generated from repeated and frequent lifting and lowering of the seat is also a factor that can trigger explosions.
Component Quality Problems: The quality of office chair components is also a cause for concern. The five-star base of some office chairs has been broken during static load tests, indicating that users may fall and get injured due to base breakage during daily use. Poor-quality casters are another common issue; easily worn casters not only affect the user experience but also pose safety hazards. More seriously, some office chairs do not have explosion-proof steel plates installed between the gas spring and the seat cushion, which undoubtedly increases the risk of use.
Excessive Formaldehyde Levels: Some office chairs have non-compliant formaldehyde emission levels. Formaldehyde, as a Class I carcinogen, can cause serious harm to the human body with long-term exposure. Users may experience symptoms such as dizziness and fatigue, and high concentrations of formaldehyde may even damage the nervous system, immune system, and liver.
Stability Issues: Some office chairs have non-compliant stability, which is mainly reflected in their tendency to tip over when leaning forward, backward, or sitting sideways. This instability may cause users to fall or bump into things, especially when moving quickly or turning around.
Relatively High Rate of Non-Compliant Batches: According to the national supervision and random inspection results of office chairs released by the State Administration for Market Regulation, the detection rate of non-compliant batches is relatively high. This indicates that there are a large number of non-compliant office chair products on the market, and users need to be extra cautious when making purchases.
