Caster Office Chair Fixation

Admin October 09, 2026

The fixation of caster office chairs can be achieved by using fixed casters or chair caster fixers. Here are the specific methods and explanations:

1. Using Fixed Casters
Fixed casters are a direct replacement solution for the original casters, restricting chair movement through physical structure. Common types include:

  • Snap-in foot pads: These feature a reinforced solid design and are tightly connected to the chair legs via a snap-in structure, effectively preventing sliding. These foot pads are priced between 1.71 yuan and 2 yuan and are suitable for most standard chair leg sizes.
  • Flat plate universal wheels with brakes: Some models integrate braking functionality, allowing for fixation through stepping or toggling a switch. For example, universal wheels with brakes in sizes ranging from 1.5 inches to 2 inches start at 0.95 yuan and cater to both mobility and fixation needs.
Selection advice: If complete fixation is required, prioritize solid snap-in foot pads without braking functionality; if occasional movement is needed, choose universal wheels with brakes, but regularly inspect the reliability of the braking mechanism.

2. Using Chair Caster Fixers
Caster fixers restrict caster rotation through external devices without replacing the original components, offering easy installation. Common styles include:

  • PVC soft-bottom type: Utilizing high-friction soft materials that adhere to the ground, these are fixed to the outside of the casters via buckles and are suitable for smooth surfaces (such as tiles and wooden floors).
  • Nylon felt type: These have a 3mm thickened felt layer at the bottom to enhance friction while protecting the ground. Installation requires using a screwdriver to pry open the caster housing and insert the fixer into the gap between the axle and the housing.
Installation tips: Install five fixers simultaneously (corresponding to five-legged chair bases) to ensure balance; regularly clean dust from the felt or soft-bottom surfaces to prevent a decrease in friction.

Precautions:

  • Fixed casters must match the hole diameter of the chair legs. Before purchasing, measure the diameter of the original casters (usually 1.5 inches to 2 inches) and the fixation method (such as snap-in or threaded).
  • Caster fixers may affect the chair's height adjustment functionality. Confirm product compatibility before installation.
  • For long-term fixation, it is recommended to choose solid foot pads to prevent rusting or deformation of the caster's internal components due to prolonged inactivity.
