Inspection of Carcinogenic Office Chairs
Carcinogenic office chairs have indeed been found during inspections, with the main issue being excessive formaldehyde levels. Here is a detailed analysis:

According to the results of the national supervision and inspection of office chairs released by the State Administration for Market Regulation, non-compliant office chairs have excessive formaldehyde levels, and formaldehyde is a known carcinogen. Among the 90 batches of products from 90 enterprises in 11 provinces and cities inspected, 21 batches were non-compliant, with a non-compliance rate of 23.3%. This data indicates that a significant proportion of office chair products on the market may pose a threat to human health, especially the issue of excessive formaldehyde levels, which is directly linked to the risk of cancer.
Formaldehyde is a colorless gas with a pungent odor, commonly used in the manufacture of adhesives, coatings, and other building materials and furniture products. Long-term exposure to environments with excessive formaldehyde levels may cause irritation symptoms in the eyes, nose, and throat, and in severe cases, may even trigger various cancers such as nasopharyngeal cancer, colon cancer, and brain tumors. For office chairs, which are frequently used furniture items, the formaldehyde emission level is particularly important. Once it exceeds the standard, it will cause long-term and potential harm to the health of users.
In addition to the issue of excessive formaldehyde levels, non-compliant office chairs also have other safety hazards. For example, problems such as base fractures and caster detachment may cause users to fall and get injured during use; while poor-quality gas springs may trigger explosions and other serious accidents, posing a direct threat to the lives of users.
To avoid purchasing non-compliant products such as carcinogenic office chairs, consumers should choose products from regular channels and well-known brands when making purchases and carefully check the product quality inspection reports and environmental certification marks. At the same time, they should also pay attention to maintaining good indoor ventilation during use to reduce the concentration of harmful substances such as formaldehyde.
