Transporting Office Chairs in Cars

Admin October 11, 2026

Cars can accommodate office chairs, but scientific planning is required based on the car model and the type of office chair. Specific handling methods vary by situation and should follow safety guidelines:

1. Disassembly and transportation of regular office chairs
Most office chairs are modular in design, consisting of components such as backrests, cushions, bases, gas cylinders, and armrests. If the entire chair is directly stuffed into the trunk of a car, it not only takes up a lot of space but may also cause deformation of the frame or damage to the leather due to compression. The correct operation is to disassemble it step by step according to the manufacturer's instructions:

  • First, use a toolkit to remove the armrests and headrest;
  • Separate the backrest from the cushion (usually fixed with buckles or screws);
  • Remove the base connectors (such as the gas cylinder and the five-star foot).
    The disassembly process generally takes 15 to 20 minutes and does not require professional skills, but it is important to keep small parts like screws. After disassembly, stack the components reasonably according to the interior space of the car:
  • Compact car models (trunk depth less than 80 cm): Lay the cushion flat on the bottom of the trunk, stand the backrest upright against the rear seat, and place small parts like the gas cylinder and screws in a sealed bag and put them in a corner;
  • All car models: Be sure to use non-slip mats or straps to secure all components to prevent them from shifting during driving and endangering safety.

2. Prioritize foldable ergonomic office chairs
If the goal is to transport an office chair from the office to home or another location, it is recommended to prioritize foldable ergonomic office chairs. These products are designed for mobility. When folded, they are less than 15 cm thick and can easily fit into the back seat or trunk of a car without disassembly. Their folding structure is usually achieved through hinges or buckles, making the operation simple and suitable for frequent handling scenarios.

3. Car model adaptability

  • Regular office chairs: Generally, they cannot be directly placed in the trunk of a small car unless it is an SUV model (with a larger trunk space) or a hatchback (where the rear seats can be folded down to expand the space);
  • Compact cars: They need to be strictly disassembled for transportation, and the trunk dimensions (such as depth and width) should be measured to ensure that the components can be laid flat or stood upright.

Safety tips: During transportation, ensure that all components are firmly secured to prevent them from sliding and hitting the occupants or damaging the car interior in the event of sudden braking. If the office chair is of high value or has fragile materials (such as a genuine leather backrest), it is recommended to wrap it with bubble wrap or a blanket before securing it.
