Car Office Chair Lifting

Admin October 14, 2026

Converting a car seat into an office chair with lifting functionality can be achieved by reasonably selecting the seat and base, clarifying the adjustment principle, and paying attention to relevant considerations.

Seat and Base Selection

  • Seat: You can choose original seats from models like the GL8, available in fabric or leather options. Some seats with electric adjustment functions are priced around four hundred yuan. These seats inherently offer a certain level of comfort and adjustment foundation, facilitating the modification process.
  • Base: It is preferable to use a swivel chair base for modification, or alternatively, choose wooden legs from an executive chair for a more coordinated overall look. The swivel chair base provides flexible rotation functionality, while wooden legs enhance the aesthetic appeal of the office chair.

Adjustment Principle

  • Manual Adjustment: Common in basic versions of car seats, a small black handle on the side or front of the seat serves as the "lifting switch." After parking and engaging the handbrake, press and hold the handle, using your body weight as a counterweight to adjust the height, with a range of approximately 5-8 centimeters. The core is a mechanical transmission structure, with working principles including gear and rack structures, where rotating a knob drives the rack to move, achieving seat lifting; or similar to a jack's operation, where "lifting" and "lowering" operations on a lever near the seat complete height adjustments.
  • Electric Adjustment: High-end model seats employ electric adjustment, relying on electric adjustment technology to receive instructions through the vehicle's computer and control relevant components. Its drive and transmission components are electric drivers that control the lifting components, capable of driving scissor links for electric lifting or relying on motors to drive screws or hydraulic devices. When modifying, car seats with electric adjustment can achieve lifting and other functions through proper wiring.

Considerations

  • When adjusting the seat, never use brute force; this is precision machinery, not exercise equipment, to avoid damaging the seat structure.
  • For manually adjusted seats, remember to lubricate the slide rails every 30,000 kilometers to ensure smooth adjustment and extend service life.
  • After adjustment, always confirm that it is locked in place; otherwise, the seat suddenly lowering while driving poses a safety hazard.
  • If the seat adjustment knob gets stuck or won't turn, for electric seats, first check if the vehicle's power or the seat's power cord is properly connected; inspect mechanical connections, checking for loose bolts or screws at the knob base, connecting rods, etc., and try tightening them; clean the knob with a brush or air blower.
