Cancer-Causing Office Chair Explosion

Admin October 16, 2026

The explosion of cancer-causing office chairs is primarily related to low-quality gas springs. Unqualified products pose risks of explosion and cancer, necessitating standardized purchasing and protective measures to reduce risks.

Explosion Causes and Risk Sources

  1. Structural Defects in Low-Quality Gas Springs: Legitimate gas springs are filled with inert gases (such as nitrogen), while low-quality products may use materials with overly thin walls or be filled with impure inert gases or even compressed air. Contact between oxygen and the metal inner wall accelerates oxidation and rusting, leading to a continuous increase in internal pressure and ultimately causing an explosion.
  2. Excessive Formaldehyde Levels: The materials (such as sponge and leather) of some unqualified office chairs may release excessive formaldehyde. Long-term exposure can increase the risk of cancer, especially for individuals with sensitive respiratory tracts and skin.
  3. Lack of Testing Standards: National standards require gas springs to pass 120,000 lifting and lowering tests, but many โ€œthree-no productsโ€ (products with no brand, no label, and no certification) on the market have not undergone any testing, making their safety and durability unassured.

Protective Measures and Purchasing Recommendations

  1. Install Explosion-Proof Steel Plates: Install explosion-proof steel plates with a thickness of no less than 2 millimeters between the gas spring and the seat cushion to effectively block explosion fragments and reduce injury risks.
  2. Choose Legitimate Products: Prioritize purchasing office chairs that have passed national safety certifications (such as CCC certification) and avoid buying โ€œthree-no productsโ€ without brands or labels.
  3. Inspect Gas Spring Details: Legitimate gas springs usually have steel stamp markings (such as manufacturer and specification parameters) and are smooth and rust-free on the surface; low-quality products may lack markings or have obvious flaws.
  4. Avoid Frequent Height Adjustments: Reducing unnecessary lifting and lowering operations can lower the frequency of pressure changes inside the gas spring and extend its service life.
  5. Focus on Material Safety: Choose low-formaldehyde or formaldehyde-free environmentally friendly materials and request formaldehyde test reports from sellers before purchasing.

Long-Term Usage Precautions

Regularly check whether components such as the gas spring and wheels of the office chair are loose or damaged. If abnormalities (such as lifting and lowering stuttering or unusual noises) are found, stop using immediately and contact after-sales service.
