Byte Company Office Chair
Byte plans to gradually replace the American brand Humanscale's 'world' model ergonomic chairs in its core domestic office buildings with domestically produced Qingxian S1 model office chairs from August 2026 to the second quarter of 2027.

Replacement Background and Reasons
Byte's decision to replace the office chairs is primarily based on employee feedback and cost considerations. The Humanscale 'world' model, retailing at approximately 8,200 yuan, has been criticized by employees as having a poor experience due to issues such as an inability to lock the backrest and insufficient support for the waist and head, earning it the nickname 'Byte Chair' for its subpar performance. In contrast, the Qingxian S1, a new domestic brand product priced at around 2,500 yuan (Byte's procurement version), is only one-third the price of the original chair. It has optimized the 'following' sensation of waist support for prolonged sitting scenarios, retaining the recline-following function while removing motor and ventilation designs to better meet actual needs.
Replacement Scope and Timeline
The replacement plan covers core office buildings such as Fangheng and Dazhongsi in Beijing, as well as Xinjiangwan in Shanghai, involving a large number of employee workstations. The replacement will commence in August 2026 and is expected to continue until the second quarter of 2027, with the old chairs being replaced and new chairs deployed in stages to ensure a smooth transition in the office environment.
Comparison Between Old and New Products
- Functional Differences: The Humanscale 'world' model is marketed as a high-end design, but its dynamic backrest adjustment function has been criticized by employees as 'unstable' in actual use. The Qingxian S1, on the other hand, focuses on core support functions, achieving dynamic waist fitting through mechanical structures, making it more suitable for long-term office scenarios.
- Cost Optimization: By simplifying non-essential functions such as motors and ventilation, the Qingxian S1 significantly reduces procurement costs while retaining basic functions such as recline and height adjustment, balancing cost-effectiveness and practicality.
- Brand Strategy: This replacement marks Byte's shift from relying on international high-end brands to supporting emerging domestic brands. Qingxian, a company established less than three years ago, has gained recognition for its targeted product design, reflecting the rise of the domestic office furniture industry.
Industry Impact and Significance
This replacement plan not only improves the employee experience but also provides a reference case for the domestic office furniture market. The successful selection of the Qingxian S1 demonstrates that domestic office chairs now have the capability to compete with international brands in terms of functional innovation and cost control, potentially driving more companies to optimize their procurement strategies in the future.
