Breathable Office Chair Fabric

Admin October 09, 2026

Common breathable fabrics for office chairs include linen-velvet, mesh, leather, and artificial leather (PU leather), with significant differences in breathability among them.

Linen-velvet: Linen-velvet is one of the commonly used breathable fabrics for office chairs, known for its strong breathability. Linen fibers inherently possess natural breathability, allowing air to circulate freely within the fabric. This effectively reduces the stuffy feeling on the contact surface between the human body and the seat. In an office environment, where people sit and work for long periods, the body continuously generates heat. The breathability of linen-velvet can promptly dissipate this heat, keeping the seat surface dry and comfortable, reducing discomfort caused by stuffiness, and enhancing office comfort.

Mesh: Mesh is an office chair fabric with exceptional breathability. It features a unique mesh structure that enables continuous exchange of air and moisture between the mesh holes. When a person sits on a mesh office chair, heat does not accumulate as it does on ordinary fabrics when the back comes into contact with the seat. This characteristic of mesh allows air to continuously carry away heat, keeping the back consistently cool, especially suitable for office scenarios requiring prolonged sitting. Moreover, mesh has good elasticity, capable of deforming to a certain extent according to the body's sitting posture and pressure, providing better support and comfort.

Leather and Artificial Leather (PU Leather): Office chairs with leather surfaces come in two types: genuine leather and faux leather. Genuine leather has good breathability, as its natural leather fiber structure allows air to circulate to some extent. However, compared to linen-velvet and mesh, the breathability of genuine leather is relatively weaker. Faux leather, or artificial leather (PU leather), has poor breathability because its material is artificially synthesized, with a relatively dense surface that makes it difficult for air to penetrate. Some executive chairs use leather surfaces mainly for their aesthetic appeal and sense of quality. However, in terms of breathability, leather office chairs need to be paired with good ventilation designs or breathable linings to improve breathability to some extent and meet the needs of office workers for prolonged use.
