Boss Chair Office Chair Cylinder

Admin October 09, 2026

The cylinder of a boss chair or office chair is mainly used to adjust the height of the seat and is one of the core components of a pneumatic lifting chair.

Function and Structure of the Cylinder

The cylinder in boss chairs and office chairs is typically pneumatically designed, achieving lifting and lowering functions through inert gases such as high-purity nitrogen filled inside. Taking the H03 boss chair as an example, during installation, the gas rod (cylinder) needs to be placed on the five-star base. Through changes in air pressure, the seat is pushed up and down to meet the usage needs of users of different heights. The internal structure of the cylinder includes a piston, seals, and a gas chamber, which adjust the seat height by compressing or releasing gas.

Safety Risks and Prevention

The safety of the cylinder depends on the purity of the gas and the quality of the material. When using inferior pneumatic rods or when the gas purity is insufficient, frequent lifting and lowering or high-temperature environments may lead to a sudden increase in air pressure, posing an explosion risk. For example, some low-priced products use industrial waste gas instead of high-purity nitrogen, or the thickness of the cylinder wall does not meet the standards. After long-term use, accidents may occur due to metal fatigue. Therefore, it is crucial to choose cylinders that have passed explosion-proof certification (such as those marked with the 'CLASS 4' rating). These products usually adopt thickened steel pipes and explosion-proof structures, which can effectively reduce risks.

Market Types and Selection

Common cylinder accessories on the market include explosion-proof computer chair pneumatic rods, gas-support lifting nitrogen rods, etc., with prices varying greatly depending on specifications and brands. When purchasing, the following parameters need to be considered:

  1. Load-bearing capacity: Select according to the user's weight. The load-bearing capacity of ordinary office chair cylinders is usually 100-120kg, and users with larger body types need to choose products with higher specifications;
  2. Stroke length: Determines the maximum lifting range of the seat, with common specifications being 8-12cm;
  3. Explosion-proof design: Give priority to products that have passed BIFMA or EN1335 standard certifications. These cylinders are usually equipped with double seals and pressure relief valves.

Maintenance and Replacement

Cylinders are consumables and may experience slow lifting or air leakage after long-term use. When replacing, note the following:

  1. Close the air pressure valve under the seat (if any) to avoid accidental lifting or lowering during the replacement process;
  2. Use a rubber mallet to gently tap the connection between the cylinder and the seat to separate the old cylinder;
  3. When installing the new cylinder, ensure it is aligned with the five-star base to avoid air leakage caused by misalignment.

By making reasonable choices and performing proper maintenance, cylinders can significantly improve the comfort and safety of office chairs.
