Boss Chair/Office Chair Air Leak
Admin October 09, 2026
Air leaks in boss chairs or office chairs pose risks such as reduced support, sudden failure, and other potential injuries. These issues can be resolved by replacing seals, gas cylinders, or small components. If you lack repair skills, it is advisable to seek professional assistance.

Risks
- Reduced Support: An air leak in the gas cylinder disrupts the internal pressure balance, weakening the chair's support. The chair may tilt or wobble, causing users to fall and suffer abrasions, sprains, or more severe injuries, especially for the elderly or those in poor health.
- Sudden Failure Risk: An air leak may indicate internal faults in the gas cylinder. As the leak worsens, the gas cylinder may suddenly fail completely, causing the chair to collapse. This can result in serious injuries such as spinal compression, fractures, head impacts, or rib fractures.
- Other Injury Risks: An unstable chair prompts users to instinctively adjust their posture, increasing the likelihood of collisions with surrounding objects. This can lead to muscle strains, joint dislocations, or other injuries. If the chair is used at a high position, it may also result in falls from heights.
Solutions
- Replace Seals: If the air leak is caused by aging or damage to the gas cylinder seal, locate the seal at the bottom of the cylinder, remove it using a wrench or screwdriver, clean and inspect it. If damaged, purchase a new seal for replacement and test the chair for air leaks afterward.
- Replace Gas Cylinder: If the seal cannot be repaired or the air leak persists, the entire gas cylinder needs to be replaced. Invert the chair, locate the connecting screws between the gas cylinder and the seat base, use tools to remove the screws, take out the old cylinder, purchase a compatible new cylinder, and install it properly. Finally, test for air leaks. If the chair sinks automatically, it is usually due to leaks in the nitrogen unit or valve inside the cylinder, and the entire cylinder must be replaced. Do not attempt unverified "quick fixes" found online to avoid exacerbating safety hazards.
- Replace Small Components: If the gas cylinder falls out or sags, it may be due to deformation or loss of the bottom retaining clip or components. Purchase a universal replacement clip for repair. If the cylinder wobbles, it may be due to worn inner sleeves; purchase corresponding-sized inner sleeves for replacement.
Precautions
When replacing the gas cylinder, it is recommended to choose products that have passed international safety certifications such as SGS and BIFMA, and accurately measure the dimensions of the old cylinder to ensure a proper fit for the new one. If you lack repair skills, it is advisable to take the chair to a professional repair shop or contact a technician for on-site repairs to avoid safety issues caused by self-repair.
