Transforming Boards into Office Chairs

Admin October 10, 2026

Scrap boards can be transformed into office chair-related furniture, such as the popular turtle stool. Here is the specific production process:

I. Material Preparation You need to purchase blow-molded bleacher seats, turnover-box-style storage boxes (with dimensions of 400X300X148mm), and 2.5-inch (or 2-inch) casters in advance. The scrap boards should be cut into five pieces using a circular saw and woodworking clamps: the base and top plates should be 45X39cm in size, the side plates should be 39cm long and 17cm high, and the back plate should be 41.4X170mm in size. Ensure dimensional accuracy during cutting to avoid misalignment during subsequent assembly.

II. Sanding Treatment Use a sanding frame to sand the cut edges and surfaces of the boards, focusing on removing burrs and rough areas. This step enhances the tactile safety of the finished product and reduces the risk of board cracking during subsequent assembly. If the boards have cracks or insect damage, they should be repaired or replaced in advance.

III. Assembling the Wooden Frame

  1. Connecting the Side and Base Plates: Use screws to vertically fix the base plate to the two side plates, with three 4*50 self-tapping screws on each side. If the board has a high density (such as oak or walnut), drill holes first before screwing to prevent board cracking; softwoods like pine can be screwed directly.
  2. Reinforcing Perpendicularity: Install two 20X20 stainless steel corner brackets on each side inside the wooden frame to ensure that the side plates are perpendicular to the base plate at a 90-degree angle. The corner brackets should be tightly attached to the edges of the boards to prevent looseness and structural instability.
  3. Installing the Back Plate: Use the same method to connect the back plate to the base and side plates, forming a semi-enclosed wooden frame structure. The height of the back plate should be adjusted according to the seat design to ensure comfortable back support for the user.

IV. Installing the Seat and Functional Components

  1. Fixing the Seat: Place the blow-molded bleacher seat on the top plate of the wooden frame, drill three holes with an electric drill, and then fix it with screws. Choose the drill bit size (such as 3mm or 4mm) according to the seat thickness. The screw length should be 5-10mm longer than the seat thickness to ensure a firm fixation. If the original screws are too short, replace them with M6 or M8 screws.
  2. Installing the Casters: Mark the positions at the four corners of the base plate and fix the casters with self-tapping screws. The edges of the wheels should be kept 1-2cm away from the edges of the boards to avoid collisions during movement. If the ground is uneven, casters with brake functions can be selected.
  3. Setting Up Storage: Place the turnover-box-style storage box directly into the reserved space in the wooden frame without installing slides. The dimensions of the storage box should strictly match the inner diameter of the wooden frame (such as 400X300X148mm) to prevent shaking or jamming.

V. Quality Inspection and Adjustment After assembly, check the tightness of the connections between all components and shake the wooden frame to test its stability. If any screws are found to be loose, retighten them and apply woodworking glue for reinforcement. If the seat is tilted, adjust the position of the corner brackets or add wooden wedges for correction.
