Black and Red Office Chair Color Change
Admin October 11, 2026
For changing the color of a black and red office chair, you can refer to the following two main methods. Choose the appropriate plan based on the material and your needs:

I. Using Spray Paint or Water-Based Paint (Recommended as Eco-Friendly)
Preparation
- Material Selection: Prioritize eco-friendly water-based paint (with a mild odor and quick drying time), along with 200-400 grit sandpaper, masking tape, old newspapers (to protect the floor), a damp cloth, and alcohol or white vinegar (for cleaning stubborn stains).
- Environmental Requirements: Choose an outdoor area or balcony with good ventilation. Maintain a temperature between 15-25ยฐC and humidity below 60% to avoid affecting the paint finish due to high temperatures or humidity.
Basic Treatment
- Clean the Surface: Wipe the chair with a damp cloth to remove dust and oil stains; use alcohol or white vinegar to assist in cleaning stubborn stains.
- Sanding: Gently sand the surface with fine sandpaper to remove the original shine and enhance paint adhesion. After sanding, use a dry cloth to remove any dust.
- Protect Non-Painted Areas: Use masking tape to cover metal connectors and fabric parts (if the original color needs to be retained) to prevent accidental spraying.
Spray Painting Operation
- Shake Well: Shake the spray paint can for 1-2 minutes before use to ensure the paint is well mixed.
- Spraying Technique: Maintain a distance of 20-30 cm from the chair surface and spray in a โZโ pattern at a steady speed. Apply thin layers each time to prevent runs; wait 15-20 minutes between coats and apply 2-3 coats in total.
- Drying Time: After the final coat, place the chair in a well-ventilated area for 4-6 hours (water-based paint dries faster). Avoid touching it during this time.
Precautions
- Material Suitability: Use wood-specific paint for wooden chairs, rust-resistant spray paint for metal chairs, and specialized dye for fabric chairs. Test color fastness in advance for fabric chairs.
- Safety Protection: Wear a mask and gloves during operation to avoid inhaling paint fumes or contact with the skin.
II. Using a Brush or Spray Gun to Apply Paint (Suitable for Large-Area Color Changes)
Sand the Surface
- Thoroughly sand the original paint surface with sandpaper to ensure it is flat and free of residue. If there are holes or cracks, use putty to repair them and sand again.
Clean the Surface
- Wipe clean with a damp cloth to remove dust and oil stains, ensuring the new paint adheres firmly.
Select Paint
- Choose paint suitable for the material (such as wood, metal, or plastic-specific paint) and confirm the color matches the expected effect.
Paint Application and Drying
- Application Method: Apply 2-3 even coats with a brush or spray gun, allowing each coat to dry completely before applying the next. For colored paint, it is recommended to apply two coats to enhance color richness.
- Finishing and Protection: After complete drying, lightly sand the surface with fine sandpaper until smooth. Finally, apply a layer of protective paint to extend the lifespan.
Key Tips: Before changing the color, confirm the chair's material. Fabric or leather materials may not be suitable for paint color changes and require specialized dye. Maintain good ventilation during operation and avoid open flames or high-temperature sources.
