Color Fading of Black Office Chairs

Admin October 16, 2026

The treatment method for color fading of black office chairs should be selected based on the material, as follows:

1. Wooden Chairs
For solid wood chairs, lightly sand the surface layer of the faded area with fine sandpaper (e.g., 400 grit or higher). Be careful to preserve the intact paint finish and avoid excessive sanding that could damage the wood. After cleaning the dust, choose a wood repair paste or fine bottle of wood paint that matches the original paint color, and apply 1-2 thin coats. After each coat dries, polish with fine sandpaper, and finally apply a thin layer of wax to enhance protection. For veneer chairs, use a furniture touch-up pen in the same color to dot the faded area, then brush on a layer of clear varnish to fix the color and prevent the touch-up pen from being directly exposed, which could lead to secondary fading.

2. Fabric Chairs
Clean the faded area first: use a soft-bristled brush with a mixture of dish soap and warm water (approximately a 1:10 ratio) to gently scrub, avoiding soaking which could deform the fabric. Allow it to dry before proceeding. If the faded area is large, choose a dedicated dye (such as textile dye) that matches the fabric color, dilute it according to the instructions, and spray it evenly. Allow it to dry in the shade. If the faded area is small, you can directly sew a piece of fabric in the same color onto the corresponding position, which both covers the flaw and adds decorative appeal.

3. Plastic Chairs
For plastic materials, use a dedicated color repair agent. Choose a color close to the original color and apply it thinly to the faded area to avoid piling up and causing color differences. After application, use a hairdryer on the low-temperature setting (approximately 40-50ยฐC) to blow hot air for 3-5 minutes to help the pigment penetrate and adhere, improving durability. If there are scratches on the faded area, sand them smooth with fine sandpaper before applying the color repair agent.

4. Metal Chairs
If the faded area is accompanied by rust, first remove the rust: use a steel wool pad or sandpaper to remove the rust layer, dry it, and then spray on a metal spray paint in the same color. When spraying, apply 2-3 thin coats, with an interval of 10-15 minutes between each coat to ensure it dries thoroughly before applying the next coat, avoiding runs. Perform the operation in a well-ventilated area and keep it away from open flames to prevent the flammable components in the spray paint from causing danger.

Daily Maintenance Suggestions
Regardless of the material, avoid direct sunlight (UV rays can accelerate material aging and fading) and areas that are frequently rubbed (such as where arms rest). Regularly wipe away dust with a soft cloth. Wooden and metal chairs can be waxed or sprayed with anti-rust agent every six months to extend their service life.
