Barracks Office Chair Screws
The commonly used screw types for barracks office chairs mainly include hex socket screws and cross recessed pan head/countersunk head self-tapping screws. The specific specifications and uses need to be determined according to the material and structure of the connected components.

Hex socket screws are the core components for connecting metal parts of office chairs. Common specifications are M3, M4, M6, M8, etc. Their heads are designed with hex socket recesses and require a special hex socket wrench for installation. This structure can provide greater torque transmission to ensure the stability of the metal frame. For example, the connection between the metal base and the gas lift usually uses M6 or M8 hex socket screws, which prevent the gas lift from loosening through high-strength fastening. The fixing of the chair back metal bracket and the seat plate may also use M4 specifications, taking into account both strength and installation convenience. The thread depth and pitch of hex socket screws need to match the pre-drilled holes to avoid thread slippage or breakage due to non-compliance with specifications.
Cross recessed pan head/countersunk head self-tapping screws are mostly used for connecting plastic or thin metal parts. Common specifications are M4, M5, M6, with a length range of 10-20 millimeters. The pointed end of self-tapping screws can directly tap threads into the material without pre-drilling, making them suitable for rapid assembly. For example, the fixing of a plastic seat surface and a metal frame often uses M5ร15 millimeter cross recessed countersunk head self-tapping screws. The countersunk head design allows the screw head to be flush with the seat surface, preventing scratches to users. The connection between the chair wheel mounting plate and the five-star base may use M4ร12 millimeter pan head self-tapping screws, with the pan head providing a larger contact area to enhance tensile strength.
The influence of material and process on screw selection is significant: For metal parts, stainless steel or carbon steel hex socket screws should be preferred to resist oxidation and deformation. For plastic parts, nylon or galvanized self-tapping screws are suitable to prevent material cracking. In addition, the surface treatment of screws (such as chrome plating, sandblasting) will affect their corrosion resistance and friction coefficient, and need to be matched according to the use environment (such as humid or dry).
Installation precautions: When using hex socket screws, ensure that the wrench matches the screw specifications exactly to avoid slippage. Before installing self-tapping screws, it is recommended to use a center punch to locate on the material to prevent slippage. For frequently used components (such as the connection of the gas lift), it is recommended to regularly check the tightening status of the screws and retighten or replace them if necessary.
