Renovation of Bad Office Chairs

Admin October 11, 2026

Bad office chairs can be renovated in various ways to give them a new lease on life.

Renovation into a Luxurious Art Piece

If the overall structure of the office chair is still intact but its appearance is worn out, you can try transforming it into a luxurious art piece. First, prepare some old tires and cut them into strips, which will serve as the material for making the seat cushion later. Next, carefully remove any nails from the stool to avoid injury during subsequent operations. Use an angle grinder to smooth out any uneven areas on the stool's surface. After that, reinforce the stool with screws to ensure its stability. Once these basic tasks are completed, paint the stool in your preferred color to give it a fresh new look. Finally, use the previously cut tire strips to make the seat cushion, and through clever design and weaving, turn the old chair into a unique art piece.

Renovation into an Ergonomic Chair

For a broken swivel chair with a good-quality base, you can renovate it into an ergonomic chair. First, measure the distance between the two holes on the base as well as the size of the holes; these measurements will be used for customizing the parts. Customize a set of ergonomic chair parts at a store, including a backrest, seat cushion, headrest, and armrests. After customization is complete, assemble them according to ergonomic principles to ensure that each component is firmly installed and in a reasonable position. In this way, the originally broken swivel chair becomes a comfortable ergonomic chair that better fits the body's curves and reduces fatigue caused by prolonged sitting.

Replacement of the Seat Panel

If only the seat panel is damaged, the renovation is relatively simple. Purchase a suitable solid wood board; the material can be chosen according to personal needs and budget. Remove the screws from the old seat panel and take it off. Trim the new solid wood board according to its size to ensure it matches the chair frame. Then, drill holes in the solid wood board so that it can be fixed to the chair with screws. Finally, install the new seat panel onto the chair and tighten the screws to give the bad chair a brand-new look.
