The explosion of automatic office chairs mainly refers to the sudden explosion phenomenon caused by component defects in pneumatic lifting swivel chairs, which mostly occurs in low-quality pneumatic rod products.

Causes of Explosion

1. Quality issues with the pneumatic rod: The wall of the pneumatic rod is too thin to withstand normal pressure; the purity of the inert gas is insufficient or it is replaced by compressed air, and the oxygen in the air can erode the inner metal wall, making the steel brittle.
2. Improper use: Frequent lifting and lowering lead to a sudden increase in temperature and internal pressure; situations such as exposure to summer sun, sudden sitting down, and tiny internal cracks may trigger an explosion.
3. Air leakage in the pneumatic rod: Although the probability is low, air leakage in the pneumatic rod can also cause an explosion.

Explosion Cases

1. In 2007, a seat explosion occurred in Zhoushan, Zhejiang.
2. In 2009, a 14-year-old boy in Jiaozhou, Shandong, died after a top rod of a pneumatic chair pierced into his body while adjusting it.
3. In 2013, Ms. Liu in Fujian Province was sitting on a swivel chair to dry her hair when the chair exploded, and a steel pipe about two centimeters in diameter shot out and penetrated her lower body.
4. In 2017, an office chair explosion in Anhui damaged a computer case.
5. In 2020, a spot check found that some staff chairs produced by enterprises had explosion risks.
6. In recent years, a woman in Xiamen was also injured by an exploding lifting chair.

Preventive Measures

1. Choose genuine products: Select products from regular manufacturers, and it is recommended that the price be above 200 yuan to avoid buying low-quality pneumatic rod products.
2. Check the pneumatic rod: Ensure that the lifting and lowering of the pneumatic rod are smooth without any stuttering or abnormal sounds.
3. Install explosion-proof steel plates: An explosion-proof steel plate with a thickness of no less than 2 millimeters should be installed between the seat cushion and the pneumatic rod to provide additional safety protection.
4. Look for safety certifications: When purchasing, check whether the product has passed relevant safety certifications, such as the China Compulsory Product Certification (CCC).
5. Use correctly: Avoid violent operations during use, such as sitting down suddenly or lifting and lowering frequently; do not disassemble the pneumatic rod without authorization to avoid damaging the internal structure.
