Illustrated Guide to Assembling an Office Chair

Admin October 11, 2026

The steps for assembling an office chair are as follows:

  1. Install the Chair Legs and Wheels

    • Insert each chair wheel into the assembly holes of the five-claw (star-shaped) base, ensuring that each wheel is fully embedded and secure without any looseness.
    • Flip the five-claw base so that the wheels face downward. Align the thicker end of the gas lift with the center hole of the five-claw base, place it vertically, and press gently to secure it. The gas lift must remain upright to avoid instability during subsequent assembly.
  2. Secure the Base Plate and Seat

    • Place the base plate on the bottom of the seat, paying attention to the direction of the adjustment handle on the base plate (usually facing outward), and ensure it aligns with the holes on the seat.
    • Align the four screw holes and initially screw in four B screws about 3-4 turns (avoid tightening them all at once to prevent misalignment of components), then tighten them crosswise one by one until secure.
    • Align the center hole at the bottom of the seat with the top of the gas lift, insert it vertically, and press gently to ensure the base plate is fully seated against the gas lift.
  3. Connect the Backrest and Armrests

    • Align the bottom sides of the backrest with the armrest mounting slots on both sides of the seat, and slowly insert them until the bottom clips are fully engaged.
    • Use two C screws to pass through from the bottom of the armrest brackets, securing the connection between the bottom of the backrest and the armrests, and tighten them until there is no wobbling.
    • Align the mounting holes at the back of the backrest with those on the seat cushion bracket, and use two wrenches to lock them in place with D screws (one hand holds the screw while the other tightens the nut), ensuring a secure connection between the backrest and seat cushion.
  4. Install the Armrests and Headrest

    • Press and hold the adjustment button below the armrest surface, insert the left and right armrests into the holes of the armrest brackets respectively, adjust to the appropriate height, and release the button to lock them in place.
    • Place the headrest in the middle at the top of the backrest, press gently to make it conform to the curve of the backrest, ensuring there are no gaps.
    • Use two E screws to pass through the headrest mounting clips, initially screw them in about 3-4 turns, then tighten them crosswise one by one to prevent the headrest from loosening or tilting.
  5. Other Considerations

    • Assembly Order: It is recommended to assemble from the bottom up (wheels โ†’ gas lift โ†’ base plate โ†’ seat โ†’ backrest โ†’ armrests โ†’ headrest) to ensure stability at each step.
    • Screw Tightening: Tighten the screws in stages to avoid excessive force at once, which could cause deformation or misalignment of components.
    • Component Verification: Before assembly, check the component list (such as the five-claw base, screw types, gas lift, etc.) to ensure nothing is missing or damaged.
    • Video Reference: You can refer to the detailed installation video tutorial from Luban Home Services for a visual understanding of the operation details.

If you encounter resistance or mismatched components during assembly, stop immediately and check for missed steps or incorrect components to avoid damage from forced assembly.
