Assembly of Ordinary Office Chairs

Admin October 11, 2026

The assembly of ordinary office chairs can be carried out according to the following steps, which are applicable to most common models with pneumatic rods and five-star base designs:

  1. Preparation before Assembly Open the box in a well-lit and flat area to avoid missing parts or scratches. Check the list of components: five-star base, casters (5 pieces), pneumatic rod, tray (seat base), seat cushion, backrest, armrests, screws, and matching tools (screwdriver, Allen wrench). Some models may include plastic protective caps or decorative covers, which need to be confirmed in advance. It is recommended to choose a wrench that matches the screw specifications to avoid slipping.

  2. Install the Five-Star Base and Casters Place the five-star base with its front side up and ensure the central hole is facing upwards. There are two ways to install the casters:

  • Snap-on Type: Align the metal rod of the caster vertically with the hole on the base, press firmly until you hear a 'click' sound, and confirm that the snap-on is fully embedded;
  • Threaded Type: Screw the caster clockwise into the hole on the base until it can no longer turn. After installation, check the flexibility of each caster one by one to avoid jamming or looseness, which may affect the stability of the chair's movement.
  1. Install the Pneumatic Rod Insert the thicker end of the pneumatic rod vertically into the central hole of the five-star base and press firmly until it fully contacts the bottom. Some models have a plastic protective cap at the top of the pneumatic rod, which needs to be removed before installation. Note: The pneumatic rod is the core component for the chair's height adjustment. Ensure it is installed vertically without tilting during installation, otherwise, it may cause height adjustment failure or air leakage.

  2. Install the Seat Base (Tray) Turn the seat cushion upside down with its bottom side up and align it with the pre-installed screw holes on the tray. Use the 'diagonal tightening method' to tighten the screws in stages:

  • First, tighten two screws on the diagonal line, then tighten the other two, and repeat this process two to three times;
  • Avoid tightening a single screw all at once to prevent uneven force on the tray, which may cause deformation. If the seat and backrest are designed separately, the backrest needs to be fixed to the corresponding position on the tray with screws before this step.
  1. Connect the Seat to the Pneumatic Rod Lift the seat with the installed tray, align the central hole of the tray with the top of the pneumatic rod, and fit it vertically downwards. Key Point: Keep the seat balanced to avoid damaging the interface of the pneumatic rod due to tilting. After fitting, press the seat lightly to confirm that the connection is secure without wobbling.

  2. Install the Armrests (Optional) If the chair is equipped with armrests, install them after the seat is connected to the pneumatic rod. Align the armrests with the reserved holes on both sides of the tray and fix them with screws. Adjust the height of the armrests to be the same during installation to avoid left-right tilting, which may affect the user experience.

Precautions:

  • Avoid using excessive force throughout the process, especially on the pneumatic rod and plastic components, to prevent breakage;
  • After installation, check that all screws are tightened and regularly (e.g., every 3 months) recheck the fasteners;
  • If the chair has abnormal height adjustment or poor sliding, first check whether the pneumatic rod and casters are installed properly.
