Aluminum Office Chair Manufacturing

Admin October 09, 2026

The manufacturing process of aluminum office chairs mainly includes three core steps: metal frame production, leather and foam processing, and assembly.

Metal frame production is the foundational step in the manufacturing of aluminum office chairs. For some frames that use steel tube structures, the steel tubes need to be bent into the shape of the bottom cushion frame first. Then, steel bars are welded in the middle position to install the mechanical device for adjusting the seat. Next, steel springs are hung to form the seat suspension net, and metal rods are inserted between the springs to enhance the stability and support of the seat. After that, according to the design drawings, the backrest frame of the seat, including the lumbar support, armrest parts, and other accessories, is welded, and thus the metal frame of the seat is initially completed. Some aluminum office chair frames adopt the aluminum casting process. For example, the EA119 office chair in 1958 has its frame formed through the aluminum casting process and is equipped with a tilting mechanism that can automatically adjust to the best comfort level according to the user's weight. This process makes the frame more integrated and gives it a more unique shape.

The leather and foam processing step directly affects the comfort and aesthetics of the seat. First, the leather is laid flat on the cutting table, and the patterns required for the seat are cut out along the pre-designed template shapes. Then, according to the shape of the leather, filling foam of the corresponding size is cut out. Since different parts of the seat have different requirements for comfort, hard foam with a relatively high density is used for the cushion part to maintain its shape and provide sufficient support; while softer foam is chosen for the backrest part to improve the comfort of sitting. After that, the leather and foam are sewn together. According to the design requirements, folds are pinched at special positions to form decorative thread patterns, and the sewing work for the seat backrest, side panels, and contour covers is completed respectively.

The assembly step is the process of combining various components into a complete seat. First, a layer of hard cardboard is added to the backrest frame to enhance the support of the backrest, then a layer of foam is put on, and finally, it is wrapped with a leather cover. Next, a sliding plate assembly is installed, which can adjust the position of the cushion forward and backward to meet the usage habits of different users. Then, a hydraulic cylinder is installed. The hydraulic cylinder can not only adjust the height of the seat but also enable 360-degree rotation. After connecting the hydraulic cylinder to the aluminum base, casters are inserted to make the seat move flexibly. Finally, a headrest and armrests are installed on the backrest to provide a more comprehensive comfortable experience for users. Thus, a comfortable aluminum office chair is manufactured.
