Cleaning Office Chairs with Alcohol

Admin October 09, 2026

Alcohol can be used to clean office chairs, but appropriate methods should be selected based on the material, and direct spraying is not recommended. Here are the specific operations and precautions:

I. Alcohol Usage Methods for Office Chairs of Different Materials

  1. Leather Office Chairs
Alcohol can dissolve the oils and coatings on the leather surface, leading to hardening and cracking over long-term use. If disinfection is required, it is advisable to use disinfectant wipes containing 75% alcohol for quick localๆ“ฆๆ‹ญ (wipe) and immediately dry with a clean cloth; or dilute the alcohol (1 part alcohol + 9 parts water) and gently wipe with a soft cloth, then apply a small amount of leather conditioner after drying to maintain the texture.

  2. Fabric Office Chairs
Alcohol may cause fabric fading or fiber damage, so direct use is not recommended. For daily cleaning, vacuuming is the main method. For stains, use a neutral foam cleaner; for removable parts, soak in a 250mg/L chlorine-based disinfectant before washing; for non-removable parts, expose to UV light for 30 minutes or spray with a mite-repellent spray and then ventilate.

  3. Wooden Office Chairs
Excessive alcohol penetration into the wood can cause moisture damage and deformation. Use a semi-dry soft cloth dampened with a small amount of 75% alcohol, gently wipe along the wood grain, and immediately dry to avoid water accumulation.

  4. Plastic/Metal Office Chairs
These materials are more resistant, so they can be wiped with 75% alcohol or a 500mg/L chlorine-based disinfectant, and then ventilated for 10 minutes; for children's plastic chairs, it is recommended to wipe again with clean water to reduce residue.

II. General Operating Steps for Alcohol Cleaning

  1. Preparation Stage
Use medical alcohol with a concentration of 70%-75%. Before cleaning, remove obvious stains and dust from the surface with clean water or a cleaner.

  2. Operation Stage
Pour the alcohol onto a clean cloth/gauze/cotton ball, making it moist but not dripping. Thoroughly wipe the area to be disinfected to ensure the surface is moistened.

  3. Action Stage
Keep the surface moist for at least 30 seconds to ensure disinfection effectiveness.

  4. Cleaning Stage
For materials like leather and metal, use a clean damp cloth for a second wipe to remove residue, and maintain good ventilation throughout the process.

III. Safety Precautions

Alcohol is flammable, so operations should be carried out away from open flames and heat sources in a well-ventilated environment to avoid the accumulation of alcohol vapors and potential hazards. Ensure that the alcohol has completely evaporated before using the chair again after wiping.
