Adjustment of Air-Cushion Office Chairs
Admin October 16, 2026
The adjustment method for air-cushion office chairs should be selected based on their design type. Common adjustment methods are as follows:

I. Pneumatic Rod Height Adjustment (Mainstream Design)
If the chair is equipped with a pneumatic rod (containing compressed gas), the lifting function is controlled by the pneumatic rod. The adjustment steps are as follows:
- Locate the Adjustment Device: Find the metal lever, circular knob, or button located beneath the seat or on the side of the chair.
- Raising Operation: Gently lift your body off the seat, pull the lever upward or rotate the knob to the 'unlock' position, and the chair will automatically rise. Lock it in place once it reaches the desired height.
- Lowering Operation: Maintain a seated position and press down, pull the lever or unlock the knob, and the chair will slowly descend. Lock it in place once it reaches the desired height. Precautions:
- Avoid rapid lifting or lowering to prevent damage caused by sudden pressure changes inside the pneumatic rod.
- If the chair cannot be raised or lowered, check if the pneumatic rod is leaking gas (replace the pneumatic rod if it is leaking).
II. Air-Cushion Auxiliary Support Adjustment (Lumbar Pillow/Seat Cushion)
If the air cushion is used for adjusting the firmness of the lumbar pillow or seat cushion, operate through the side air valve:
- Inflation: Press or rotate the air valve to increase support (e.g., manual pressing can inflate an air seat cushion).
- Deflation: Perform the reverse operation on the air valve to decrease support (some seat cushions support one-click deflation). Example: An air lumbar pillow can be inflated to adjust its fit, accommodating different body types.
III. Manual Height Adjustment of Air-Cushion Chairs (Without Pneumatic Rod Design)
Some air-cushion chairs adopt a purely mechanical structure and require operation through a bottom adjustment knob:
- Adjustment Method: Use a wrench to rotate the adjustment knob counterclockwise to lower the height and clockwise to raise it.
- Handling Difficult Adjustments: Apply lubricating oil or metal cleaner to the adjustment knob to reduce friction. Applicable Scenarios: Simple air-cushion chairs without pneumatic rods or retro-designed models.
IV. Inflatable Air-Cushion Chair Adjustment (Requires External Air Pump)
If the chair needs to be adjusted in height using an air pump, follow these steps:
- Inflation: Connect the air pump to the air inlet and step on the air pump until you hear a 'click' sound (indicating the air cushion is fully inflated).
- Air Pressure Adjustment: Repeat inflation or deflation operations if the air pressure is too high or too low. Precautions:
- The air pressure should not be too high (prone to air cushion rupture) or too low (affecting support).
- Ensure the air pump is securely connected to prevent air leaks or detachment.
Safety Tips
- Avoid using excessive force during adjustment to prevent damage to the pneumatic rod, air valve, or adjustment knob.
- Check the seal of the connection port when using an air pump.
- If unfamiliar with the operation, it is recommended to consult the product manual or seek professional advice.
