Adjustment of Height-Adjustable Office Chairs

Admin October 17, 2026

The adjustment of height-adjustable office chairs should be carried out according to the specific model and function, combined with operational steps and safety precautions, mainly divided into two aspects: operational adjustment and safety maintenance.

I. Operational Adjustment Steps

  1. Locate the Control Device
If seated, you can adjust the height by pulling up the control lever. Some models require turning a knob instead of pulling a lever. If unsure about the function of a specific lever, refer to the user manual or try each one individually (be careful not to use excessive force). For example, some pneumatic height-adjustable chairs require repeated up-and-down pumping of the lever for fine-tuning.

  2. Adjust Seat Height

    • Seated Adjustment: Move the seat to the desired position, adjusting in increments of a few inches (or centimeters) at a time, and return the lever to its original position after adjustment. Some models require pulling up the lever to lift the seat and pressing down to lower it.
    • Standing Adjustment: If adjustment is not possible while seated, stand and operate the chair so that the front of the chair aligns below the knees, ensuring that when seated, both feet are flat on the ground, avoidingๆ‚ฌ็ฉบ (hanging in the air) or excessive pressure on the thighs.
  3. Match Height to Task

    • Computer Operation: Keep your eyes level with the monitor. If the monitor height is fixed, prioritize adjusting the seat rather than forcibly twisting your neck.
    • Desk Work: Keep your elbows level with the desk to reduce shoulder and neck strain.
    • Prolonged Sitting: Ensure both feet are flat on the ground with knees bent at a 90ยฐ angle to avoid impaired blood circulation.
  4. Optimize Auxiliary Functions

    • Armrest Adjustment: If the chair is equipped with armrests, adjust them according to the natural height of your arms to avoid excessive pressure on the shoulders or arms hanging in the air. If arm support is not needed, lower or remove the armrests to prevent them from obstructing the knees from approaching the desk.
    • Dynamic Sitting Posture: Change your sitting posture every 15-30 minutes, such as briefly leaning forward, sitting upright, or adjusting your body's center of gravity to reduce the pressure of a single posture on the spine.
    • Footrest Use: If the chair is too high and cannot be adjusted, use a footrest to ensure stable support for both feet and avoid leg muscle fatigue.

II. Safety Maintenance Points

  1. Choose Compliant Products
Pneumatic height-adjustable chairs rely on the piston movement of internal cylinders for adjustment, which are usually filled with high-purity nitrogen or other inert gases. Poor-quality pneumatic rods or insufficient gas purity may lead to a sudden increase in pressure, posing an explosion risk. When purchasing, choose products from regular manufacturers that have passed safety certifications and avoid low-priced, inferior products.

  2. Standardize Usage Habits

    • Avoid frequent and rapid height adjustments to reduce internal friction and pressure fluctuations in the cylinder.
    • Keep away from high-temperature environments (such as radiators or direct sunlight) to prevent gas expansion from causing seal failure.
    • Regularly check for looseness or air leaks in the cylinder, control lever, and other components. If abnormalities are found, stop using immediately and contact after-sales service.
  3. Emergency Handling
If there is stuttering, abnormal noise, or sudden seat drop during adjustment, stop operation immediately and check if the cylinder is damaged. Do not attempt to disassemble or repair it yourself to avoid secondary injuries.
