Adjustment of Caster Office Chairs

Admin October 22, 2026

The adjustment methods for caster office chairs mainly include four aspects: gas lift height, backrest angle, armrest, and caster adaptation. The specific operations are as follows:

1. Gas Lift Height Adjustment
Most caster office chairs adjust the seat height by rotating the gas lift knob. During adjustment, the user needs to slightly lift their body to make the chair leave the ground a bit. Rotate the gas lift knob until both feet are flat on the ground and the thighs are parallel to the ground. At this time, the center of gravity of the body moves downward, which can effectively reduce the tendency of the chair to slide. If there is a seat illustration on the side of the gas lift knob, it means the chair has a "gravity lock" function. Rotating the knob clockwise can fix the chair body and prevent accidental sliding. Some chairs require continuous pressing of the knob while adjusting the height, and they will automatically lock when released.

2. Backrest Angle Adjustment
The purpose of backrest angle adjustment is to provide lumbar support and maintain the natural curve of the spine. The adjustment device is usually located at the bottom of the backrest, mostly in the form of a handle or button. After sitting down, the user can press or drag the control device to tilt the backrest backward to a comfortable angle (it is generally recommended to be at an angle of 100ยฐ-110ยฐ to the vertical direction) or adjust it forward to increase upright support. Some high-end chairs support multi-gear locking, and users can fix the angle according to their needs.

3. Armrest Adjustment
Armrest adjustment can optimize arm support and reduce shoulder and neck fatigue. For height adjustment, some chairs achieve up-and-down movement by pressing the button on the side of the armrest or rotating the adjustment lever. It is advisable to adjust until the elbows are at a 90ยฐ angle when the arms hang naturally. Angle adjustment requires the use of the knob or sliding device at the bottom of the armrest. It is recommended to adjust the armrests to be parallel to the ground or slightly inward-tilted (about 5ยฐ-10ยฐ) to fit the natural posture of the arms.

4. Caster Adaptation Adjustment
If the chair slides too easily, the type of casters can be changed to improve the situation. The original casters are mostly of a snap-on design and can be removed by pulling them straight up. Choose appropriate casters according to the floor material:

  • Tile/marble floors: Nylon silent wheels are recommended. The wheel hub diameter should be โ‰ฅ7.5cm to reduce flexibility by increasing the contact area.
  • Wooden floors: It is advisable to choose PU brake wheels. Their soft rubber material has inherent damping and can significantly reduce the sliding amplitude. When replacing, ensure that the caster shaft matches the hole diameter of the chair base to avoid unstable installation.

Precautions: Before adjustment, check the structural stability of the chair to avoid damaging the components due to excessive force. If the gas lift cannot be locked, check whether the knob is tightened or contact after-sales service to replace the components. After replacing the casters, test the smoothness of sliding to ensure there is no jamming or abnormal noise.
