Adjustable Office Chair Wobbling
Admin October 11, 2026
The wobbling of an adjustable office chair may be due to design characteristics or issues with installation and components, and can be resolved by checking and tightening screws, addressing wear, replacing components, and lubricating mechanical parts.

Causes of Wobbling
- Design Characteristics: The legs of adjustable chairs often use an inner-outer tube structure. When raised, the overlapping area between the inner and outer tubes decreases, resulting in slight wobbling, which is a normal phenomenon and not a quality issue.
- Improper Installation or Loose Screws: Loose screws connecting the five-star base to the gas lift, screws securing the base, and bolts connecting the armrests to the seat can all cause the chair to wobble.
- Expansion and Contraction Loosening of Hardware: Hardware may loosen due to expansion and contraction, leading to chair wobbling.
- Loose Connection Between Gas Lift and Five-Star Base: If the hole on the five-star base is slightly larger, the connection between the gas lift and the five-star base may not be tight enough, causing wobbling.
- Hydraulic Rod Issues: Aging or damage to the internal seals of the hydraulic rod, leading to nitrogen leakage, can cause the hydraulic rod to lose stability and result in severe or frequent wobbling.
Solutions
- Check and Tighten Screws: Use appropriately sized Allen wrenches, screwdrivers, and other tools to check and tighten all visible screws at connection points one by one.
- Address Worn Screw Holes: If screw holes are worn, insert toothpicks dipped in wood glue, let them dry, and then tighten the screws; or insert small wooden blocks into the screw holes and tighten the screws.
- Replace Worn or Damaged Components: Replace corresponding parts if they have cracks, breaks, or severe wear; if the base is loose or has sticking issues during rotation, purchase a compatible new base for replacement; if the gas lift is faulty, replace the gas lift or the entire lifting mechanism.
- Lubricate Mechanical Parts: If wobbling is accompanied by a 'squeaking' noise, it may be due to a lack of lubrication in mechanical parts. Clean dust with a dry cloth, then apply a small amount of silicone-based grease to the telescoping part of the gas lift, or use lubricating oil or WD-40 on metal friction areas such as the base recline mechanism.
