Violence Related to Adjustable Office Chairs

Admin October 12, 2026

The “violent” behavior associated with adjustable office chairs generally does not directly lead to explosions. However, in extreme cases, if there are quality issues (such as improper replacement of gas in the pneumatic rod or design flaws), an explosion may occur and cause serious injuries.

  1. Low direct correlation between violent behavior and explosions
The pneumatic rods of qualified adjustable office chairs usually undergo rigorous testing and can withstand a pressure of 2000 jin (about 1 ton). “Violent” behaviors during normal use, such as rapid lifting/lowering and forceful sitting, generally do not exceed their design limits and thus do not directly trigger explosions. In some tests, extreme violent means (such as overload pressure tests) are used to verify quality, but these scenarios far exceed normal usage intensity and are only for assessing product safety.

  2. The core of explosion risks lies in the quality of the pneumatic rod
The pneumatic rod is a key component of an adjustable chair, and its safety depends on the composition of the internal gas and the structural design. Using inferior pneumatic rods or illegally replacing the internal gas (such as using high-pressure air instead of the inert gas nitrogen) may cause the gas to expand rapidly when heated, leading to a sudden increase in pressure and a burst. In addition, design flaws (such as insufficient sealing or substandard material strength) also increase the risk of explosion. For example, in 2013, Ms. Liu was pierced by a steel column due to a burst pneumatic rod, and there were similar cases in Xiamen, all directly related to the quality of the pneumatic rod.

  3. How to reduce usage risks

    • Choose genuine products: When purchasing, ensure that the pneumatic rod has passed safety certifications (such as German TÜV or Chinese SGS) and avoid “three-no” products (products with no brand, no production license, and no quality inspection report).
    • Avoid improper operations: Do not disassemble or replace the internal gas of the pneumatic rod by yourself, and do not use sharp objects to strike the pneumatic rod.
    • Regular inspection and maintenance: If you find that the chair has difficulty in lifting/lowering, makes abnormal noises, or the surface of the pneumatic rod is damaged, stop using it immediately and contact after-sales service.

Summary: The explosion risk of adjustable office chairs has a weak correlation with “violent” usage behaviors and is more attributable to the quality issues of the pneumatic rod itself. Users should purchase products through legitimate channels and follow safety usage guidelines to minimize risks.
