Adjustable Office Chair
Admin October 17, 2026
The methods for adjusting an office chair mainly fall into two categories: height adjustment and forward-backward adjustment, with specific operations as follows:

Height Adjustment
Hand-Controlled Device Adjustment
- If the chair is equipped with a pneumatic height adjustment mechanism, you can usually raise or lower it by pulling up the control lever or repeatedly pushing the lever up and down. For example, with some pneumatic models, you need to pull up the control lever under the seat while using your body weight to assist in adjusting the height; after releasing the lever, the seat will lock in place.
- If there is a handle under the chair seat, lifting the handle upwards will raise the seat; to lower the seat, you need to turn the handle upwards and lift your body slightly, allowing the seat to descend naturally.
Fixed Screw Adjustment
- For swivel chairs with fixed screws at the bottom, you need to loosen the screws first, manually adjust the chair legs or pneumatic rod to the desired height, and then tighten the screws again to secure them. This method is suitable for traditional office chairs without pneumatic mechanisms.
Dual Control Lever Operation
- If there are two control levers under the seat, sit on the chair and lift one of the handles. The seat will rise or fall with your body weight; release the handle when you reach the desired height to lock it in place.
- Some chairs have two separate handles underneath, with one specifically for height adjustment. You can determine its function through repeated trial operations.
Forward-Backward Adjustment
Pneumatic Rod Adjustment Type
- Sit on the chair and lean slightly forward. Locate the control lever of the pneumatic rod under the chair, pull it upwards while gently leaning back, and the backrest will tilt backward; push the lever downwards and lean forward to return the chair to its upright position. This method is suitable for modern office chairs that support multi-angle tilting.
Knob Adjustment Type
- The adjustment knob is usually located on the side or underneath the chair. Turning the knob counterclockwise will release the backrest lock, allowing you to manually adjust the backrest angle to a comfortable position. Then, turn the knob clockwise to secure it. This method is commonly found in mid-to-low-end office chairs.
Lever Adjustment Type
- Some high-end office chairs are equipped with a lever adjustment mechanism, usually located on the side of the chair. Pulling the lever will switch between different gears, enabling step-by-step adjustment of the backrest's forward-backward tilting angle. When operating, maintain a stable sitting posture and avoid sudden forceful movements that could damage the lever.
Precautions: Before adjusting, confirm the structural type of the chair to avoid damage caused by misoperation; when adjusting pneumatic devices, maintain body balance to prevent accidents caused by sudden lifting or tilting.
