Adjustable Office Chair Rebound

Admin October 09, 2026

The rebound issue of adjustable office chairs needs to be addressed on a case-by-case basis, as follows:

If it is automatic rebound of the height adjustment function, it is usually related to the failure of the gas cylinder's seal. The gas cylinder is the core component of an adjustable office chair, enabling height adjustment through internal high-pressure gas. When the sealing performance of the gas cylinder declines, the internal gas may slowly leak, causing the seat surface to be unable to maintain a fixed height after being subjected to force, resulting in automatic rebound. This type of issue cannot be resolved through repair because the gas cylinder is a sealed structure, and the internal high-pressure gas and precision components are difficult to repair through external operations. More seriously, seal failure may pose a risk of gas cylinder explosion, especially at high temperatures or during frequent height adjustments, where abnormal internal pressure may cause the outer shell to rupture, resulting in personal injury. Therefore, once automatic rebound of the height adjustment function is detected, use must be stopped immediately, and the gas cylinder should be replaced as soon as possible with one that meets safety standards. When replacing, choose products manufactured by reputable manufacturers and avoid using inferior or refurbished components.

If it is rebound of the chair back's recline, it can be resolved by adjusting relevant components. This type of issue is usually related to the recline resistance or locking mechanism and can be divided into the following three situations:

  1. Basic recline angle adjustment: Most office chairs are equipped with an adjustment handle on the underside or side of the chair back. To use it, first locate the handle and unlock the recline function (usually by moving it up or down), then slowly lean back with your body, adjust the chair back to a comfortable angle, and release the handle to lock the current position. If rebound still occurs after adjustment, the locking mechanism may not be fully engaged, and the operation should be repeated to ensure the handle is fully reset.
  2. Backrest tension/tightness adjustment: Some office chairs are equipped with a tension adjustment knob to control the recline resistance. The knob is usually located on the underside of the chair back or the bottom of the seat. Turning it clockwise increases the recline resistance (suitable for users with a heavier weight or those who need stable support), while turning it counterclockwise decreases the resistance (suitable for users with a lighter weight or those who prefer flexible recline). When adjusting, rotate gradually and test the effect to avoid over-adjustment, which may make the chair back too hard or too soft.
  3. Multi-angle locking function: High-end office chairs may support multi-angle locking (such as 90ยฐ office mode, 120ยฐ leisure mode, etc.). These chairs are usually equipped with independent locking buttons or tabs, allowing users to select a specific angle and lock it according to their needs. If rebound still occurs after adjustment, check whether the locking mechanism is damaged or stuck, and contact after-sales service for repair if necessary.

Summary: Rebound of the height adjustment function requires replacing the gas cylinder to ensure safety, while rebound of the chair back's recline can be resolved by adjusting the handle, knob, or locking mechanism. Before operating, it is recommended to consult the product manual or contact the manufacturer for specific guidance to avoid exacerbating the issue due to misoperation.
