Adjustable Office Chair Pneumatic Pressure

Admin October 14, 2026

The pneumatic lifting mechanism of adjustable office chairs is based on a pneumatic rod, and its safety and usage specifications require special attention.

Principle of Pneumatic Lifting Mechanism

The core component of an adjustable office chair is the pneumatic rod, which contains a sealed cylinder filled with high-purity nitrogen or other inert gases, typically with a pressure range of 1.5-10 atmospheres. When a person sits down, their weight compresses the gas inside the cylinder through the piston rod. Due to the difference in area on both sides of the piston, the pressure difference of the gas drives the chair up or down. After reaching the desired height, the valve is closed, sealing the gas and fixing the chair's position. This process relies on the sealing and gas stability of the pneumatic rod, with qualified products maintaining safe pressure variations.

Key Safety Factors

The safety of the pneumatic rod depends on its materials and craftsmanship:

  1. Material Strength: Qualified products use pneumatic rods with wall thickness that meets standards, capable of withstanding normal pressure variations. Inferior products may have insufficient wall thickness, leading to a sudden increase in pressure to 18-25 atmospheres under human weight, exceeding the cylinder wall's load limit and risking explosion.
  2. Gas Stability: High-purity nitrogen has a low expansion rate, ensuring stable pressure with temperature changes. Inferior products may be filled with ordinary air or impure gases, causing abnormal pressure increases in high-temperature environments.
  3. Sealing: Aging or damaged seals can lead to gas leakage, affecting the lifting function and even posing safety risks.

Usage Precautions

To ensure safety, the following guidelines should be followed:

  1. Avoid High-Temperature Environments: Do not place the chair in high-temperature areas such as near radiators or in direct sunlight to prevent gas expansion and sudden pressure increases.
  2. Regular Inspections: Check the pneumatic rod monthly for cracks on its surface and whether the base is loose. Stop using immediately if any abnormalities are found.
  3. Choose Certified Products: Prioritize purchasing products with international certification marks such as SGS and TรœV to ensure materials and craftsmanship meet safety standards.
  4. Control Lifting Frequency: Do not lift or lower the chair more than 10 times a day to prevent valve wear from frequent switching, which could lead to gas leakage.

By understanding the working principle of the pneumatic rod, paying attention to material safety, and strictly adhering to usage specifications, the safety risks of adjustable office chairs can be effectively reduced.
