Adjustable Office Chair Issues

Admin October 16, 2026

The following are common issues and countermeasures for adjustable office chairs:

Safety Issues

  • Gas Cylinder Hazards: In legitimate products, the gas cylinder is filled with nitrogen and protected by a thickened steel plate, having passed 120,000 lift-and-lower tests. However, inferior products may use high-pressure air instead of nitrogen, which can lead to explosions due to friction or thin cylinder walls. National spot checks reveal that one out of every four office chairs is unqualified, with 90% of explosion incidents related to the use of unbranded products or chairs that have exceeded their service life (over 5 years).
  • Aging Risks: Aging seals can cause gas leakage, resulting in abnormal noises during lifting and lowering. If the chair has been in use for over 5 years or experiences lifting and lowering issues, it should be replaced immediately.

User Experience Issues

  • Height Adjustment: When not in use for an extended period, it is recommended to raise the chair to its highest position to equalize the gas pressure above and below the piston, extending its lifespan. When sitting on the chair, lower it using the gas cylinder to avoid excessive pressure on one side of the piston.
  • Functional Defects: Some products have design flaws. For example, the armrests of the Sihoo M56 second generation are too short to effectively support the arms when sitting upright; the recline elasticity is weak, resulting in a noticeable rubbing sensation on the back; the seat cushion is short and the seat depth is not adjustable, causing discomfort for tall individuals or those with long legs; and there is no optional footrest, making it inconvenient for lunch breaks.

Purchase Selection Issues

  • Certification Marks: Check if the gas cylinder has a manufacturer's code and an S09001 certification stamp.
  • Brands and Reports: Prioritize well-known brands like Yongyi and Sihoo, or products from platforms like NetEase Yanxuan that provide inspection reports.
  • Explosion-Proof Measures: Touch the gas cylinder to confirm the presence of an explosion-proof steel plate and request a nitrogen purity test report from the seller to avoid purchasing unbranded products at low prices.

Daily Use Issues

  • Frequency Control: Limit the number of daily lifts and lowers to no more than 10 times to reduce mechanical wear.
  • Abnormal Handling: If you hear creaking sounds or notice oil leakage from the gas cylinder, stop using it immediately and replace it.
  • Environmental Management: Keep the chair away from heating sources in summer and get up and move around every hour in high-temperature environments to prevent the gas cylinder from expanding due to heat.
