Adjustable Office Chair Disassembly

Admin October 09, 2026

The disassembly of an adjustable office chair can be carried out according to the following steps, with attention paid to tool usage and component protection:

1. Prepare Tools You need to prepare a rubber mallet (preferred) or a regular hammer (with a towel placed underneath to prevent scratches on the paint surface) and a wooden board (used to assist in disassembling the gas lift). The choice of tools should take into account the material properties of the components. For example, the bottom of the gas lift is made of metal, and direct hammering can easily cause deformation or damage to the internal structure, so a flat tool should be used for precise force application.

2. Disassemble the Base

  • Separate the Seat Cushion from the Tray: Turn the chair upside down and use a screwdriver to remove the fixing screws on the bottom tray, separating the base from the seat cushion. Pay attention to the screw specifications in this step to avoid mixing them up, which can cause difficulties in subsequent installation.
  • Remove the Backrest and the Gas Lift: First, separate the backrest connectors, and then raise the gas lift to its highest position. Hold the seat cushion with one hand, press the lift lever with the other hand, and shake it to loosen the gas lift from the base using the principle of leverage. If resistance is encountered, lightly tap the top of the gas lift to assist in separation.

3. Disassemble the Gas Lift

  • Method One: Turn the chair feet upside down and use the flat side of the rubber mallet to tap the metal surface at the bottom of the gas lift. Do not tap the middle button of the gas lift. If the button is higher than the bottom, adjust the tapping position or switch to Method Two.
  • Method Two: After removing the base, turn the chair feet upside down and place a wooden board under the bottom of the gas lift. Tap the wooden board with the rubber mallet to apply force indirectly. This method can disperse the impact force and reduce the risk of deformation of the gas lift. Safety Tip: Choose gas lifts that have passed SGS and TUV certifications. Uncertified products may pose an explosion risk. Wear safety goggles and gloves during disassembly.

4. Disassemble the Chassis Hold the chair upside down with one hand and tap the edge of the connection between the chassis and the seat cushion with the rubber mallet. Keep the tapping force even to avoid local stress causing deformation of the chassis. If the chassis and the seat cushion are tightly engaged, tap around the perimeter alternately to gradually loosen the connection structure.

5. Disassemble the Wheels The wheels are usually fixed to the chair feet with clips or threads and can be separated by simply pulling them hard. If the wheels are rusted or stuck, insert a screwdriver into the gap between the wheel and the chair foot and gently pry it, or spray a small amount of lubricant to assist in disassembly.

Precautions

  • Take photos of the connection positions of each component before disassembly for easy subsequent assembly.
  • Store screws and small parts separately to avoid loss.
  • If you need to replace the gas lift, measure the diameter and stroke length of the original lift to ensure that the new part matches.
