Adjustable Office Chair Broken

Admin October 17, 2026

Common faults and repair methods for adjustable office chairs are as follows:

1. Unable to Adjust Height

  • Causes:
    • Malfunction of the adjustment handle or related adjustment mechanism (e.g., damaged or stuck internal parts).
    • Damage to the gas lift (internal gas leakage or seal failure).
    • Someone sitting on the chair prevents it from rising (test after leaving the seat).
  • Repair Methods:
    • Gas lift damage: You can replace the gas lift yourself. Steps: Use your foot to hold the bottom of the chair and shake to remove the old gas lift. Use a wrench or hammer to tap along the edge of the gas lift to detach it from the base. Purchase a compatible new gas lift (price around $30). Install it onto the base first, then place the seat on top and press down to secure it. Note: Ensure the new gas lift is a qualified product filled with high-purity inert nitrogen. Avoid using inferior products filled with ordinary compressed air to prevent explosion risks.
    • Adjustment mechanism malfunction: It is recommended to contact the merchant or manufacturer for repair to avoid further damage caused by self-disassembly.

2. Unable to Lower After Rising

  • Causes: Air leakage in the lift cylinder, resulting in reduced sealing performance.
  • Repair Methods:
    • Try adding a small amount of engine oil around the air release button at the top of the cylinder to enhance sealing.
    • If ineffective, the entire lift needs to be replaced. Due to the complex internal structure and high-pressure components of the cylinder, it is recommended to be operated by professionals to avoid safety hazards caused by self-disassembly.

3. Other Loose Issues

  • Causes: Loose connections of fixing nuts or screw rods.
  • Repair Methods: Check the bottom of the seat, the connection of the lift rod, and other parts. Find the loose position and tighten it with tools.

Safety Tips:

  • Repairing adjustable chairs involves high-pressure components (e.g., gas lifts, cylinders). Non-professional operation may cause explosions or mechanical injuries. For complex faults, it is recommended to contact after-sales service or professional repair personnel first.
  • Avoid frequent and violent height adjustments during daily use. Regularly check the surface of the gas lift for cracks or dents. Stop using immediately if any abnormalities are found.
