Adjust Office Chair to Flat Position

Admin October 13, 2026

To adjust the backrest of an office chair to a flat position, first check the cable control switch and the small gas cylinder, and take corresponding actions based on the specific situation.

Cable Control Switch Inspection and Handling

The cable control switch is a crucial component for controlling the angle of the office chair's backrest. If you find that the backrest cannot be flattened, first check whether the cable control switch is in the closed position. If the cable control switch is not closed, there may be several situations:

  • Loose cable control: When the cable control becomes loose, the backrest angle adjustment function will fail. In this case, you can adjust the nut to lengthen the distance of the cable control, restoring it to the appropriate tightness and thereby restoring the backrest angle adjustment function.
  • Broken cable control: A broken cable control is a more serious issue, in which case the backrest angle adjustment will be completely impossible. The only solution for a broken cable control is to replace it with a new one to ensure the normal use of the office chair.
  • Disconnected cable control: A disconnected cable control means that the terminal of the cable control has fallen off from the corresponding connection part. In this case, simply reattach the fallen terminal to restore the normal function of the cable control, allowing the backrest to adjust its angle normally.

Small Gas Cylinder Inspection and Handling

If there is no problem with the cable control switch, then you need to inspect the small gas cylinder. The small gas cylinder plays an important role in supporting the backrest of the office chair.

  • Check the air pressure: Gently press the thin end of the gas cylinder with your hand to feel whether there is air pressure. If you cannot feel any air pressure, it indicates that the gas cylinder may have malfunctioned.
  • Determine whether to replace: When the gas cylinder has no air pressure, it can easily retract. In this case, the gas cylinder can no longer properly support the backrest, and you need to replace it with a new one to ensure that the backrest of the office chair can be flattened and used normally.
