Cleaning of Abandoned Office Chairs
Admin October 10, 2026
If abandoned office chairs need to be cleaned before use, follow these steps for comprehensive cleaning and maintenance:

I. Comprehensive Cleaning Process
- Vacuuming
Use a vacuum cleaner equipped with a soft-bristle brush attachment to thoroughly vacuum the surfaces of the seat, backrest, armrests, etc., paying special attention to removing debris, dust, and hair from the crevices. For fabric materials, move the vacuum cleaner slowly along the direction of the fibers to avoid damaging the fabric. - Foam Cleaning
Spray a professional foam cleaner (such as a product specifically designed for fabric or leather) to cover the entire seat surface and hidden areas. The cleaner should fully penetrate into the fibers to break down deep-seated stains. After letting it sit for 5-10 minutes, gently scrub the surface with a soft-bristle brush, avoiding excessive force that could deform the fabric. - High-Temperature Disinfection
Use a high-temperature steam cleaner (recommended temperature range: 120-150ยฐC) to evenly spray the seat surface. High temperatures effectively kill bacteria and mites while softening stubborn stains. Maintain a distance of approximately 10-15 centimeters between the device and the seat surface during operation to prevent local overheating and material damage.
II. Targeted Component Cleaning
- Stubborn Stain Removal
- Local Scrubbing: For stubborn stains in corners or seams, use an old toothbrush dipped in a neutral detergent (such as diluted dishwashing liquid) to scrub a small area. After scrubbing, wipe clean with a damp cloth.
- Salt and Oil Mixture Method: For stains on tables and chairs, mix salt and salad oil in a 1:1 ratio to form a paste. Apply the paste to the stain, let it sit for 10 minutes, and then wipe it off. This method is suitable for minor oil stains or adhesive marks.
- Deep Cleaning of Casters
- Disassembly and Inspection: Turn the chair upside down and grasp the caster bracket with your hand to pull it outwards (no tools required for snap-on designs). If the caster is stuck, use a flat-head screwdriver with a soft cloth to gently pry open the edge of the snap-on mechanism. After removal, inspect the bearings for hair and debris in the gaps.
- Debris Removal: Use tweezers to pick out long hair or fibers from the gaps in the direction of caster rotation to prevent tangling. Gently scrub the surface and bearings with an old toothbrush dipped in neutral detergent to remove oil stains. Rinse with water, dry with a cloth, and air-dry for 10 minutes.
- Lubrication and Reassembly: Apply 1-2 drops of office equipment-specific lubricant to the bearings and rotate the casters to evenly distribute the oil. Align the bracket snap-on mechanism and push it in until you hear a 'click' to confirm secure installation. Turn the chair upright and test for smooth rotation. If there is any stuttering, recheck for debris residue.
III. Selection of Wiping Materials
Preferably use towels, cotton cloths, flannel cloths, or other absorbent and soft materials. Avoid rough cloths, old clothes with loose threads or sewn buttons to prevent scratching the seat surface. For leather materials, use a dedicated leather cleaning cloth and promptly absorb excess moisture with a dry cloth after wiping.
