02 Office Chair Adjustment

Admin October 09, 2026

There are mainly two ways to adjust the height of an office chair: adjusting via hand controls and adjusting via components under the seat.

Adjusting via Hand Controls

  • Operation Method: If you are already seated in the chair, you can adjust the height by pulling up the corresponding control lever; some models may require turning a knob. If you are unsure which lever controls the height, you can read the user manual or try each lever one by one. When adjusting, move the seat to a comfortable position, shifting it only a few inches (or centimeters) at a time, and then return the lever to its original position after adjustment. For certain models, pulling up the lever raises the seat, while pressing it down lowers the seat; pneumatic models can be adjusted by pumping the lever, i.e., repeatedly pushing it up and down to raise or lower the seat. If you cannot adjust it to the desired position while seated, you can adjust it from a standing position, ensuring that the front of the chair is just below your knees.
  • Applicable Scenarios: This method is suitable for most office chairs equipped with hand controls. It is relatively simple and straightforward, allowing for quick adjustments while seated.

Adjusting via Components Under the Seat

  • With a Handle: If there is a handle under the seat of the chair, lift the handle upward to adjust the height of the armchair. The high-pressure gas inside the air rod is compressed and then rebounds, causing the seat to rise naturally. To lower the armchair, turn the handle upward, lift your hand, and sit on the chair. The rebound of the high-pressure air in the air rod is blocked, and the chair lowers naturally.
  • With Fixed Screws: If there are fixed screws at the bottom of the swivel chair, simply loosen the screws, adjust the height to the desired level, and then tighten them again.
  • With Two Adjustment Levers: If there are two adjustment levers under the seat, one for up and down adjustments and the other for left and right adjustments, you can sit on the seat and adjust the height by lifting the appropriate lever. Release the lever when the desired height is reached.
  • With Two Handles: If there are two handles under the chair, one can adjust the height of the chair, and the other can adjust the angle of the chair back. You can try to see which handle adjusts the height and then make the adjustment accordingly.

Additional Notes on Adjusting Office Chair Height: Adjust the height according to the height of the desk and chair as well as your own height. When seated in the office chair, your eyes should be level with the computer to avoid strain when looking at the screen. The height should be moderate, not too low to make you sink into the chair, nor too high to cause eye fatigue. At the same time, ensure that you can sit up and maintain good posture. If you encounter a chair that is difficult to adjust, consider replacing it to ensure a good working environment.
