and Release”。

我试着利用午休时间做一些 CrossFit(健身训练体系)

CEU Cardenal

Marcelo

Designpreis
Deutschland。 ,false,"2026-09-28T02:03:43.410Z","2026-09-28T02:10:24.645Z","2026-09-28T02:10:24.913Z
6782,"nktjk1rz5i9rj0a9tny8pm52","16751568300021a3ckd.png","Designer response to the COVID-19 pandemic, most people around the world were forced to work from home. Much of the time, people struggled to find the right way to work from home and to better balance work and life. Yet many freelancers and creatives had been doing this for a long time.

We interviewed Andrés Baldoví, the Spanish designer of the Haibei seating series, to offer advice to those accustomed to working in an office. We also took the opportunity to learn about the designer's own life, and discovered that he always keeps an open mind to new experiences and ideas. Let's follow the interview and explore.

**Question 1: The coronavirus outbreak has given us a life unlike the "normal" one. Suddenly, our homes are also serving as our offices. What advice would you give for creating an efficient home office?**

**Andrés Baldoví:**

In times of change, people have realized that they don't have to be in the office to add value for their company. They realize that by working from home in a disciplined, efficient way, they can take greater control of their lives and their time — which in turn translates into a better quality of life and higher productivity at work.

That's why the office of the future — whether a traditional office space or a home office — should make employees feel "at home." Now, everything is focused once again on the user and their needs, because every individual brings added value and differentiation to the company.

**Question 2: Does working from home affect your creativity? How do you stay creative during this unusual period?**

**Andrés Baldoví:**

For me, creativity is a matter of attitude, effort, curiosity, and perseverance. All of these values are closely tied to the environment we live in.

Whether at home or in the office, the more comfortable you feel, the greater the sense of well-being you get from your workspace — and the more you can unleash that creativity, with a greater chance of success in whatever you do.

Personally, I work on a laptop, so if I'm doing more detailed work, I can hook it up to a large screen at home or use one at the office. I can even go out onto the terrace to enjoy the sunshine and the Mediterranean breeze when I need calm to think about a new project or simply answer emails. At the end of the day, it's all about finding inner peace so you can bring your best self to what you do.

**Question 3: How do you balance work and life? What do you do in your free time? Please share the music you're listening to or films you're watching.**

**Andrés Baldoví:**

In my case, my work takes up a big part of my life, because I love what I do — work gives me personal fulfillment and helps me grow as a person. I always strive to give my best to every project I take part in.

When I can exercise, I go out, because exercise brings me a lot of inner peace. I also spend a lot of time with my children and friends. I try to do things that enrich me. I listen to a lot of different music while I work. Music motivates me, relaxes me, or inspires me. The album I've been listening to lately is "Catch and Release" by Matt Symonds.

**Question 4: How do you collaborate remotely with your team to keep projects on track? What tools do you use?**

**Andrés Baldoví:**

At our studio, we've always used remote tools. It's something we're used to, so this change wasn't a problem for us. We actually see it as an advantage rather than a disadvantage, because you can work with the best professionals no matter where they live.

We use a project methodology we've developed over the years, which includes project tracking tools, video conferencing, and email. But what matters isn't the tools themselves — it's having the knowledge and experience to use them effectively so they help you reach your goals every day.

**Question 5: What is your daily schedule like?**

**Andrés Baldoví:**

I consider myself fortunate to be able to go to the office. I try to enjoy what I do every day. I try to use my lunch break to do some CrossFit and recharge for the evening. When I finish work, I like to cook and spend time with my kids. I try to enjoy what life gives us, day after day.

**Question 6: What changes do you think the pandemic will bring to the design world?**

**Andrés Baldoví:**

Crisis periods are times of change and adaptation — but also times of opportunity.

Just as users have had to adapt to this new normal, design must adapt to users' and companies' new demands for products and services, as well as new ways of delivering services and collaborating.

As for our studio, we've been developing a design methodology based on the concept of agile design for years. It allows us to iterate with clients in a more dynamic way, add value at every step of a project, and create solutions in the shortest possible time using the necessary tools.

**Question 7: What role does design play in this crisis?**

**Andrés Baldoví:**

COVID-19 is here to stay. This new situation means users have had to adapt to a new normal, and that has changed what users need. New users will care more about feeling safe in the environments they move through. In this sense, design is key to creating new environments of products and services that meet these new user profiles.

We've been working directly with companies on this evolution. If they want to stay in the market, they need to adapt their products and services to this new normal.

**About the Designer**

Andrés Baldoví studied industrial design at CEU Cardenal Herrera University. He later graduated from the Polytechnic University of Valencia with a master's degree in product design, and began working in studios in 2005. Since then, his studio work has focused on a ceaseless search for new trends and product finishes. He has worked on more than a hundred different products. Through them, he discovered that what he's most passionate about at work is finding new uses for everyday objects.

His motto is to develop product design work that adds value to the products he helps design, brings in new market trends, and responds to consumer needs and usage — building bridges with innovation rooted in tradition.

Andrés' greatest passions are outdoor activities and spending time with his family. He loves sports, hanging out with family and friends, and learning from the world's great designers such as Starck, Meda, and Lissoni.

**About Alegre Design**

Alegre Design is a studio specializing in industrial design and product development. Founded by Marcelo Alegre in 2001, they understand design as a bridge between creativity and production, delivering effective and lasting solutions based on creativity, innovation, and experience in all of their projects. Their goal: to reinvent every day.

Their designs have also won prestigious international awards such as the Red Dot Design Award, the iF Product Design Award, Premios Delta, and the Designpreis Deutschland. If the pandemic taught us anything, it's the value of a flexible work environment that encourages both collaboration and focus. While 2023 won't bring any revolutionary workplace trends, there will be a stronger focus on improving employee well-being and productivity. Business owners can take advantage of these trends to boost their brand image and corporate vision, recruit new talent, and win over their biggest and best clients.

Here are the key design factors that will shape the workplace in 2023.

**Supporting Neurodiversity**

Workplaces are currently improving the support they offer to neurodivergent employees. Neurodiversity describes variation in how our brains work and the many ways we perceive information. Examples of neurodivergent conditions include ADHD, autism, and dyslexia. Offices are becoming more inclusive of individuals across the spectrum by creating spaces that support a variety of work needs. This includes quiet places to work, spaces with adjustable lighting and sound, and carefully chosen colors or materials that help create a relaxing environment. These office design elements strengthen an inclusive workplace as well as talent acquisition and retention.

**Multimodal Design**

Deep-focus zones for quiet study, serene spaces furnished with inviting and imaginative furniture and creative or activity areas, formal meeting spaces, and community areas are all examples of multimodal design. This fosters greater teamwork and interaction between people. Employees in these zones don't have to stay at a particular workstation or spot, allowing for greater movement throughout the space and higher utilization. Multimodal work combines thoughtful, straightforward technology with a practical design approach, paired with relevant experiences, to maximize the work experience.

**The Office as a Destination**

Offices are increasingly looking to hotels and retail for design inspiration. Many workers have grown accustomed not only to working in relaxed, non-sterile conditions, but have also begun to put health and well-being above work. For many people, hotels offer visitors a warm, tailored, and enjoyable experience. As a result, offices must be planned as places that radiate friendliness and hospitality. The most attractive offices will resemble a stylish social club — or at the very least, they should look more comfortable and inviting than a typical office setting. More companies will embrace amenities that create a warm, friendly environment by drawing design inspiration from bars, cafes, hotels, residences, and even spas.

**Micro Spaces**

The rise of micro spaces is another trend that will dominate in 2023. When creating micro spaces, it's important to establish clearly defined boundaries between work, leisure, and collaboration areas. Use mobile desks and other adaptable office equipment to reduce reliance on permanent workstations. Reducing desk density is a major advantage of micro spaces. Micro spaces are seamless office environments that encourage employees to collaborate while taking each individual's specific work preferences into account. They are also visually appealing compared to a sea of desks.

**Data-Driven Design**

In data-driven design, employee behavior is taken into account — for example, their activity in the office or a coworking space, observed by sensors or other technology. By adopting real-time data and trends, it improves a workplace's use of space while also boosting productivity. Office space analytics, user input, technology and furniture prototype testing, and testing of spatial concepts will all increase, so that companies can make data-driven decisions about office design.

**The Rise of Office Pods**

Many employees need some privacy to take a Zoom call or a hybrid meeting, now that hybrid work has been adopted. Depending on your team's size and requirements, modern versions of the office pod or phone booth offer a range of options. For example, you can set up smaller phone booths for single use, or install multi-person pods that can accommodate a small group. By using these space-saving ideas, you can create an extra area where employees can work alone without interruption.

**Minimalist Design**

There was a time when many office designers embraced a "low-key" ethos. Recently, that trend has shifted, especially as 2023 approaches. A fully minimalist office interior is a specialized idea that only suits certain businesses and cultures. Today, vibrant neon signs, bold paint patterns, and quirky design elements are popular and can add a lot of energy to a workplace. Used subtly and imaginatively, they can create an environment unlike any other — one that boosts workers' excitement and productivity.","2026-09-28T02:03:40.792Z","2026-09-28T02:10:22.047Z","2026-09-28T02:10:22.257Z

Furniture、Ambiance、Suitability和 Technology &

Furniture**

Ambiance**

Suitability**

Tools**

Technology**

,"2026-09-28T02:03:39.072Z","2026-09-28T02:10:20.128Z","2026-09-28T02:10:20.401Z
6780,"bfup9mf9tq28vu8jrstoo8xt","16751572025482uhqx8.png","FASTT: Five Key Design Elements of Hybrid Collaboration Spaces",1267,713
"https://caijing-img.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/large_16751572025482uhqx8_0be4a8cef5.png","large_16751572025482uhqx8_0be4a8cef5","large_16751572025482uhqx8.png",1191.32,563,1191319
"https://caijing-img.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/small_16751572025482uhqx8_0be4a8cef5.png","small_16751572025482uhqx8_0be4a8cef5","small_16751572025482uhqx8.png",319.22,319217
"https://caijing-img.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/medium_16751572025482uhqx8_0be4a8cef5.png","medium_16751572025482uhqx8_0be4a8cef5","medium_16751572025482uhqx8.png",687.95,687951
"https://caijing-img.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/thumbnail_16751572025482uhqx8_0be4a8cef5.png","thumbnail_16751572025482uhqx8_0be4a8cef5","thumbnail_16751572025482uhqx8.png",84.79,84785,"16751572025482uhqx8_0be4a8cef5",436.66,"https://caijing-img.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/16751572025482uhqx8_0be4a8cef5.png","2026-09-28T02:10:19.415Z",[507
1067,"The way we work has changed, and collaboration and meeting spaces must change with it.

Today's hybrid workplace brings together all kinds of people: full-time office staff, part-time remote workers, and fully remote employees. Solving the meeting room problem is a key part of meeting today's employees' needs, and our workplaces face the challenge of adapting to new demands.

**Why does meeting/collaboration space design need to change?**

Workers are asking this question more and more, now that they have more control over where work gets done: "Could this meeting have been an email?" A well-planned meeting space makes it much easier to answer "no." The age-old question of "Why are we meeting?" can be clarified with the help of different types of spaces, several new seating options, dedicated project rooms, and greener locations.

To serve a globally dispersed workforce, meeting room design has to change. To enable hybrid work, collaboration spaces bridge the gap between the physical and the digital, allowing colleagues who are face-to-face and colleagues who are far away to interact, meet, brainstorm, discuss, and otherwise engage with one another.

**FASTT — the five key elements of a successful collaboration space**

Furniture, Ambiance, Suitability, and Technology & Tools: the five factors outlined below are the ones to keep in mind when designing efficient, successful meeting spaces for your office.

**Furniture**

Meetings tend to run long — and in uncomfortable chairs, they feel even longer. That's why the type of furniture you choose, and where you place it, is an important part of enhancing the overall experience of everyone in the office. Furniture and chairs should be arranged to suit the size of the room or space and to improve everyone's line of sight.

Tables with rounded or tapered edges allow the camera to see more people. Ergonomic chairs help people stay relaxed even in lengthy meetings. Comfortable lounge chairs or standing desks can encourage teams to brainstorm in smaller settings or informal meeting spots.

**Ambiance**

The ambiance of a meeting space has a considerable effect on people's mood and experience. Lighting, color, sound, and touch together create the overall atmosphere of a space.

The best lighting for video conferencing is natural, diffused light; avoid harsh lighting wherever possible. For video calls, a neutral background such as gray provides an ideal setting. Add as much sound-absorbing material to the space as possible to improve audio quality for both in-person and virtual guests. Finding ways to bring plants into meeting rooms is becoming a priority, because adding greenery to enclosed areas brings real benefits.

**Suitability**

For a hybrid staff, one-size-fits-all meeting rooms aren't enough. The first question to ask is: "What kinds of meetings should this room mainly support?" Depending on a team's needs and its size, hybrid spaces must be built to support a range of interactions and activities.

The relationship between meeting room features and room size is crucial to making sure all available meeting space is used effectively. If most attendees will be on a call, your meeting space should be designed differently. If meetings average only 3-5 in-person attendees, your company may benefit from fewer large meeting rooms and more small ones.

**Tools**

Hybrid meeting spaces also need analog tools. Consider equipping the space with practical collaboration tools that help participants work with remote colleagues. Magnetic and portable whiteboards are extremely useful for brainstorming sessions and team discussions.

**Technology**

If a hybrid collaboration space isn't equipped with the right technology, it simply won't work for a hybrid team. Nothing derails a meeting faster than poor audio. Poor video quality, insufficient power access, device-sharing problems, technical glitches and more... hybrid work comes with its own set of issues.

Consider using two flat screens — one to display the meeting content and one to display virtual attendees. Choose the right camera and position it according to the activities that take place in the space. Which office designs are classics, and which ones won't feel dated as time passes — every company should think about this. Comfortable office design isn't just about chasing trends in interior design, unique furniture, or cutting-edge technology. When you decide to make a change, planning ahead and equipping your office space with comfortable furniture will help you avoid the stress of a full-scale overhaul.

But what does a comfortable, timeless office design look like? These five design principles will keep any office adaptable, fresh, and functional for many years to come.

**Functionality**

Making sure a design is not only beautiful but also fully practical and useful is essential to creating a space that lasts. Every piece of furniture in the office should serve a clear purpose. The design should be simple and clear, with no clutter or redundant configuration. Every part of the design — including space requirements and artwork — should be considered with this in mind. The office should be cleared of anything irrelevant. After all, if something serves no purpose, why keep it?

**Neutral Colors**

Neutral colors are often called versatile or achromatic colors, and they tend to be understated. Common neutral tones in interior design include black, white, gray, and coffee brown. These neutrals carry no warm or cool bias, so they pair with warm or cool palettes without clashing — and they often create a sense of understated sophistication.

For anyone seeking comfortable commercial design, incorporating neutral colors into your workplace is a smart choice. Classic tones such as black and white, dark gray and light gray, or cream and taupe suit room designs of virtually any style. Traditional shades of deep green and blue are excellent choices for accent colors, because paired with neutrals they add subtle depth to any workspace. Neutrals give you the freedom to change the look and feel of a space, since that is far easier than redesigning it completely.

**Natural Elements**

Over the past few years, an emphasis on natural elements in commercial design has become increasingly popular. Your office can gain a great deal by making use of natural light, ventilation, and greenery. Simple natural touches — such as including plenty of plants and using sustainable materials for furniture and architectural features — can greatly enhance a workplace's appeal. Using as much natural wood as possible is ideal. Thanks to wood's durability, furniture can last for many years with very little maintenance.

**Forward Thinking**

Your office design should evolve to reflect how the world is becoming more innovative and advanced. Every company must prioritize a forward-looking office layout. As the modern world develops, the design of the furniture and other products used in workplaces keeps evolving too. Think about the technologies — and the furniture brands — that encourage innovation and challenge the status quo. You need to embrace current design features and, where necessary, refine them according to the principles of comfortable design.

**Sustainability**

Sustainability and "comfortable design" go hand in hand. By choosing sustainable products, you not only extend the life of your workspace but also make a positive contribution to improving the planet. Flexibility is another benefit of a sustainable workplace, because it encourages innovation and the search for solutions that save both money and energy. In addition, when choosing office furniture, you should think about how the space will change over time.","2026-09-28T02:03:36.277Z","2026-09-28T02:10:17.103Z","2026-09-28T02:10:17.314Z

![](https://caijing-img.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/16759343045411943vrg_a563246581.jpg)

![](https://caijing-img.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/16759343326076333_Xz_Q_23139cd0ec.jpg)

![](https://caijing-img.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/1675934357933190_Hvb_A_6eee1e2dde.jpg)

![](https://caijing-img.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/1675934388737690_YI_8_H_5657a39d56.jpg)","2026-09-28T02:03:34.692Z","2026-09-28T02:10:15.313Z","2026-09-28T02:10:15.575Z
6774,"mb9r9z12bjpr03rqjhiap664","167593450661799x2s3.jpg","The Future Office Needs Multipurpose Spaces",1978
"https://caijing-img.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/large_167593450661799x2s3_f0898b1b35.jpg","large_167593450661799x2s3_f0898b1b35","large_167593450661799x2s3.jpg",100.64,540,100639
"https://caijing-img.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/small_167593450661799x2s3_f0898b1b35.jpg","small_167593450661799x2s3_f0898b1b35","small_167593450661799x2s3.jpg",30.17,270,30174
"https://caijing-img.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/medium_167593450661799x2s3_f0898b1b35.jpg","medium_167593450661799x2s3_f0898b1b35","medium_167593450661799x2s3.jpg",60.98,405,60981
"https://caijing-img.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/thumbnail_167593450661799x2s3_f0898b1b35.jpg","thumbnail_167593450661799x2s3_f0898b1b35","thumbnail_167593450661799x2s3.jpg",9.16,132,9160,"167593450661799x2s3_f0898b1b35",354.31,"https://caijing-img.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/167593450661799x2s3_f0898b1b35.jpg","2026-09-28T02:10:12.708Z",[614
1063,"Today, spaces are no longer built for just one thing; they serve different purposes throughout the day. They should be malleable and flexible, enabling everyone to deliver their best work on the task at hand. Enter multipurpose office design: a mindset that aims to apply the best elements of new strategies and established frameworks to the workplace.

Why does multipurpose design matter?

The one-size-fits-all concept is challenged by multipurpose office design, which champions exclusivity of workspaces. The idea that every employee is different and needs a particular workplace layout to be productive, engaged, and creative is backed by multipurpose design.

With fewer imposing physical barriers, the workplace becomes more adaptable. What's more, flexible office space gives you the opportunity to experiment with different workplace layouts. Employees are reported to want their offices to be more flexible, personalized, and open over the long run.

Here are some things to inspire you when creating multipurpose office spaces.

Communal spaces with multiple options

In an organization, a communal space is one used by several people at once. These places are set apart to encourage moving around, conversation, and taking a break. The monotony of a fixed furniture plan can be broken by including different workstation layouts, such as standing workstations, co-working desks, cubicles, folding tables, and meeting pods. Employees can decide, based on the type of work, whether to work together in a discussion room or alone in a focused area.

![](https://caijing-img.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/16759343326076333_Xz_Q_23139cd0ec.jpg)

Movable dividers/partitions for quick layout changes

Dividers (often called partitions) can be used quickly and easily to separate workstations, split a room, or turn rooms into one larger open area. They act as very useful movable walls when splitting teams for a project, especially when teams switch regularly. For calls or conversations that need a more private setting, these partitions can also turn a place into a private zone.

Flexible technology and tools for uninterrupted work

Mobile technology solutions enable collaborative work and freer communication. Provide groups and teams with the right tech tools, a tea kitchen or lounge area, and private spots for meetings or calls. Because these devices are necessary for much of the work done, a space without them may only be partly usable, or not usable at all. Thanks to flexible technologies and tools such as wireless charging, mobile boards, projectors, and smart ambient lighting, every area of your office can become a multipurpose workspace of the future.

![](https://caijing-img.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/1675934357933190_Hvb_A_6eee1e2dde.jpg)

The coffee shop experience

The latest entry into office design is the “coffee shop atmosphere.” Coffee-shop-inspired design shows how the relaxed vibe of a neighborhood café can be brought into the workplace. Coffee shops are increasingly used for more than refreshments—working, reading, meeting, and more have all become commonplace. Similarly, an office cafeteria can be versatile, and decorative flourishes in the form of pleasing colors, artwork, and comfortable seating can help tie everything together.

Key takeaways

Office layouts are evolving to become more open, conversational, and practical. Given limited office space, the new era of office space design calls for ingenuity and versatility. With square footage at a premium, multipurpose workspace layouts help maximize the usable area. Depending on the needs of the user or owner and the intended use of the area, fabric can set the right atmosphere and tone for a workplace. With the right textures, colors, and patterns, you can be sure of achieving the intended result.

Some of the most critical elements used in the design and planning of commercial spaces are fabrics. We have put together a helpful guide summarizing what to consider when choosing office furniture fabrics or textiles.

**Factors to consider when choosing fabric for your furniture:**

Fabric is chosen for office spaces not only because it looks good, but also because it is comfortable to use, easy to maintain, and available in a wide range of options. To ensure it fits the space, factors such as material, color, and pattern must be considered, along with the overall atmosphere of the space and the durability of the material.

**First: Keep office furniture fabrics out of direct sunlight**

All textiles fade over time. Consider keeping fabric out of direct sunlight, as this will cause it to fade faster. With this in mind, you can either move furniture away from windows or choose fade-resistant materials. For areas that receive direct sunlight, the best option is to choose materials with high color fastness; the color fastness index matters little in enclosed, darker spaces.

![](https://caijing-img.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/1676279958316705j_HKU_5e0fd37d7c.png)

**Second: Cleaning and maintaining office furniture fabrics**

Both water-based cleaners and dry-cleaning products can be used to clean various fabrics. You should have fabric with innate properties that does not require frequent, intensive cleaning. Some upholstery textiles include stain-resistant treatments that extend their service life and help preserve their appearance better. There are many after-treatments available that offer water resistance, antibacterial properties, and protection against mold, mildew, and odor development. Some specialized upholstery may require specialized cleaning processes.

**Third: The durability of office furniture fabrics**

How often furniture is used determines the lifespan of its upholstery. Your furniture and other textiles must be able to withstand the wear of constant movement and change. Choosing dense, abrasion-resistant fabric for office furniture is essential, as it will not need especially careful handling. It is also a good idea to use tightly woven materials and fabric blends.

![](https://caijing-img.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/16762799799892130_Akr_8d25c502df.png)

The Martindale test and rub test are currently applied to most upholstery and furniture fabric testing. The result of the Martindale test is a reliable guide, showing how many rubs a fabric can withstand before visible wear. If it can withstand more than 15,000 rubs, it is classified as an abrasion-resistant material. This is an excellent choice for high-frequency use, as it is thicker than other materials.

**Fourth: The mood and aesthetics of office furniture fabrics**

The atmosphere and overall look of an office will be greatly influenced by the colors and patterns of the materials. Pick textiles in timeless colors that look great and stand the test of time. Warm tones help create a soothing impression, while bright colors create a pleasant, approachable mood. Fabrics with patterns can hide stains well and tolerate use better than plain materials. However, you should verify that the material is acceptable to your clients or consumers, making sure the design you choose complements the office's overall concept, aesthetics, and style.

![](https://caijing-img.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/1676279995600241m7_XP_23b526752e.png)

**Fifth: Office furniture fabric brand style**

Fabrics can be used to raise brand awareness. Include your brand's primary and secondary colors in the fabrics you choose for furniture. By doing so, you create a link between the physical environment and your brand identity, conveying relevant ideas and messages about your company's values and reputation. It is a simple yet powerful strategy for increasing brand awareness among customers and visitors.","2026-09-28T02:03:30.297Z","2026-09-28T02:10:11.129Z","2026-09-28T02:10:11.411Z

![](https://caijing-img.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/1677575602902443l_Sbb_7e56c62f49.jpg)

![](https://caijing-img.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/1677575719223123_Uj1y_badefea0e8.jpg)

**第三：通过Resimercial(再商业)设计让人们有宾至如归的感觉**

![](https://caijing-img.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/1677575799775037_XO_Vw_b42794ba57.jpg)

,"2026-09-28T02:02:57.990Z","2026-09-28T02:02:58.121Z
6631,"qrvaz23o5icdx4a9iqqlj1p0","16776372765164pq41p.jpg","Reshaping the Workplace: Where Young People Want to Work",1140,760
"https://caijing-img.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/large_16776372765164pq41p_42c022c54f.jpg","large_16776372765164pq41p_42c022c54f","large_16776372765164pq41p.jpg",124.36,667,124361
"https://caijing-img.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/small_16776372765164pq41p_42c022c54f.jpg","small_16776372765164pq41p_42c022c54f","small_16776372765164pq41p.jpg",41.84,333,41839
"https://caijing-img.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/medium_16776372765164pq41p_42c022c54f.jpg","medium_16776372765164pq41p_42c022c54f","medium_16776372765164pq41p.jpg",79.45,79446
"https://caijing-img.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/thumbnail_16776372765164pq41p_42c022c54f.jpg","thumbnail_16776372765164pq41p_42c022c54f","thumbnail_16776372765164pq41p.jpg",12.21,234,12207,"16776372765164pq41p_42c022c54f",153.16,"https://caijing-img.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/16776372765164pq41p_42c022c54f.jpg","2026-09-28T02:02:55.889Z",[724
942,"The war for young talent is in full swing. Companies that cannot adapt quickly enough to change or embrace the future of work will undoubtedly be hit. They must set themselves apart to attract and retain employees. People now find it easier than ever to change jobs, thanks to the rise of hybrid teams and organizations that let them work from anywhere.

Young Gen Zers and millennials are taking center stage in the so-called “Great Resignation.” Indeed, they are more likely to quit than older generations. Harvard Business Review states that “resignation rates were highest among employees aged 30 to 45, rising by more than 20% on average between 2020 and 2021.” Another report shows that 65% of Gen Z employees plan to resign this year. According to a survey Microsoft conducted last year, 41% of employees globally would consider changing jobs this year, and 55% believe the work environment is a factor in choosing their next job.

If companies want young employees back in the office, they need to reshape the workplace—offering people what they need and harnessing the power of shared workspaces. Physical space and culture will play the biggest role in winning the battle for young talent.

The pandemic has raised the stakes for companies seeking to retain top talent and create successful cultures. Let's look at four ideas for creating workplace experiences that can build a strong sense of belonging among young talent.

![](https://caijing-img.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/1677575602902443l_Sbb_7e56c62f49.jpg)

**First: Make the space more attractive and fit for what people need**

Invest in functional spaces, better workstations, and fully equipped lounges. Create a warm, pleasant space that is easy to use. Raising employees' comfort in the office calls for attention to indoor air quality, touch-free technology, and visible cleanliness. Introduce fun workplaces connected to company values or business strategy. A work environment that allows all kinds of working styles, nurtures creativity, and supports community may be the ideal way to encourage young employees. Color, light, art, and spaces to socialize with colleagues are all good ideas. Even when they work alone in a shared spot, they will feel part of a vibrant company.

![](https://caijing-img.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/1677575719223123_Uj1y_badefea0e8.jpg)

**Second: Try layouts that meet people's needs**

Young people want greater flexibility, better technology, and incentives—and companies must provide them. Encourage a balance of independent and collaborative work by incorporating more team-centric rooms into your floor layout. Include a variety of working styles: heads-down individual work at desks, flexible seating for when employees need a break from their desks, collaborative areas that promote focused team participation, and social lounges. Rather than renovating the entire facility, start by revamping meeting rooms, buying new team tables, or redoing the flooring.

**Third: Make people feel at home with resimercial design**

To keep the workplace from feeling dull, draw on a variety of textures and materials. This combination of finishes and colors can make the workplace feel warmer and more inviting. Aim to create an environment where employees can relax and enjoy their work. Where feasible, use a range of lighting options along with natural light. Light-colored furniture and walls, glass (where possible), and well-placed greenery can amplify natural light. Also consider using premium materials such as leather-look upholstery, wood tones, or carpeting.

![](https://caijing-img.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/1677575799775037_XO_Vw_b42794ba57.jpg)

**Fourth: Prioritize employee satisfaction**

Physical and mental health issues have always mattered, especially among younger generations. Working from home has been linked to musculoskeletal disorders, depression, anxiety, social isolation, and declining well-being. A stimulating, chaotic workplace is thought to spark certain creative breakthroughs. However, it also carries a flaw known as the “fixation effect,” which prevents creative individuals from coming up with other, fresher ideas.

What's more, too many stimuli, games, and gadgets can lead to distraction and lack of focus. In practice, this blocks people from “deep work” and productivity.

That is why, with a minimalist office design, you can achieve the open, delightful aspects of a modern workstation without being overwhelmed by excess decoration and clutter.

Here are some minimalist office space ideas, along with measures you can take to boost productivity.

**Keep empty space**

Research shows that our minds are influenced by our surroundings, and empty space helps us think more clearly. Every visitor and employee who steps into your workplace will notice the chaos if it is crammed with supplies. Make sure your employees have plenty of room in their workstation areas. This can be achieved by leaving certain areas open in your office furniture or when arranging the entire room.

![](https://caijing-img.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/1677576668734969cu_Iw_d8137d2d80.jpg)

**Pleasing colors**

A subdued palette adds much-needed brightness to any workplace environment by evoking thoughts of calm and harmony. If you want to create a relaxed atmosphere, you may want to lower the intensity. Consider swapping bold, vivid color schemes for more understated, lighter ones. Your employees may benefit from neutral wall paint on furniture and materials rather than dark or harsh colors, boosting morale and productivity.

**Use lockers and organizers**

A cluttered workplace genuinely has a significant negative impact on employees' concentration, lowering work quality, attention, and productivity. Clients' perception of your brand and workplace culture can really be affected by a messy office. Instead of loose documents, consider filing systems and portable storage, and use desktop organizers in place of any decoration. You need a tidy, well-organized workspace with desk storage units to create a more modern feel.

**Plants and natural elements**

In a minimalist setting, plants blend in seamlessly. Plants have been proven to improve workplaces and make them more attractive. They also spark the imagination and improve the office's air quality. Doing so can greatly reduce stress levels. In addition to adding real plants, consider adding furniture with natural ingredients, such as wood or stone decorations, or water features like fountains. What's more, large windows with natural light can lower stress levels and have an overall effect on general well-being—and they complement minimalist design beautifully.

![](https://caijing-img.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/1677576668734969_O_Bn_E_8e371499ca.jpg)

**Adopt an open plan**

An open, minimalist office layout is ideal for expanding the available space. The result:

Six common sitting postures

![](https://caijing-img.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/1677577430204401_NW_78_95e3ccc6d2.jpg)

A - Forward-leaning posture, no lumbar support.

B - Forward-leaning posture, lumbar region supported by the backrest.

C - Upright posture, sitting toward the front of the seat, no lumbar support.

D - Upright posture, sitting centered, no lumbar support. E - Reclined posture, lumbar region supported by the backrest. F - Semi-reclined posture, lumbar region supported by the backrest.

Among the employees surveyed, the proportions of working behaviors at the workstation (including getting up and moving around, standing, etc.) in which forward-leaning, upright, and reclined postures were applied are as follows:

![](https://caijing-img.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/1677577463132662pj5_H_24650bbbb0.jpg)

Influenced by user preference, forward-leaning postures were used more often overall, but the survey also revealed some people who use reclined postures over the long term.

So, is there a posture among these that is less likely to cause fatigue?

It turns out that sitting perfectly upright is not the “most correct” posture!

The “slightly reclined” posture is the most comfortable.

The moment you hear “sit up straight!” your first instinct is probably to shuffle forward on the seat and stiffen your back.

“Keep your back straight” sounds like the simplest and most correct posture cue. But have you noticed how hard it is to maintain—and how the longer you sit, the more tired you feel?

![](https://caijing-img.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/1677577463132662m6_JS_9dd5775165.jpg)

By measuring how long subjects could remain in a given posture, or the time until discomfort set in, and combining this with muscle fatigue and dynamic body pressure research, the study identified the posture least likely to cause fatigue.

1. Subjective ratings of overall sitting comfort

![](https://caijing-img.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/16775774971761862_F_Sn_3b8229192a.jpg)

From the above, the following comparisons can be drawn:

Seating comfort: E>F>A>B>C>D; sense of relaxation: F>E>A>B=C>D; sense of fatigue: D>C>B>A>E>F.

2. Instrumented muscle fatigue research

![](https://caijing-img.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/16775774971761869yue_cd4c350d6e.jpg)

Using a body pressure distribution measurement system, surface electromyography, and other instruments, the study measured the impact of different office postures on muscle fatigue. Based on the results of these two objective measurement methods, the following conclusion can be drawn:

Reclined postures beat forward-leaning postures, which in turn beat upright postures. Supported postures remain comfortable for far longer than unsupported ones and are less prone to fatigue.

When working, keeping your back perfectly straight really cannot be sustained—and it is not the best posture anyway. Prolonged sitting itself runs against human nature; the better posture is always a dynamic one, not a static one.

From an ergonomic standpoint, we recommend choosing an adjustable ergonomic chair. The backrest and lumbar support not only help keep the torso and spine stable, but also assist a slight backward tilt that keeps the lower back in a neutral position with a natural lumbar curve. That is the posture that is truly relaxed and suited to human nature.","2026-09-28T02:02:44.617Z","2026-09-28T02:02:44.766Z

![](https://caijing-img.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/1677577717551745_ZRI_5_8e07bbdfb9.jpg)

![](https://caijing-img.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/1677577762637580_J4_JB_e43b8e7448.jpg)

![](https://caijing-img.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/1677577783815355_Gr_AP_a8229a74f7.jpg)

![](https://caijing-img.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/1677577807230330_Ju_LU_f1a1e72df3.jpg)

![](https://caijing-img.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/1677577828909370c_Hdd_5818109b77.jpg)

,"2026-09-28T02:02:41.138Z","2026-09-28T02:02:41.270Z
6603,"vs4bbk0m0etn1zqnp33d2z4m","167763719173383if5y.jpg","Workplace Research: The Right Standing Desk Height for Comfort",764
"https://caijing-img.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/large_167763719173383if5y_c58db18c4d.jpg","large_167763719173383if5y_c58db18c4d","large_167763719173383if5y.jpg",31.55,31550
"https://caijing-img.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/small_167763719173383if5y_c58db18c4d.jpg","small_167763719173383if5y_c58db18c4d","small_167763719173383if5y.jpg",11.64,354,11640
"https://caijing-img.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/medium_167763719173383if5y_c58db18c4d.jpg","medium_167763719173383if5y_c58db18c4d","medium_167763719173383if5y.jpg",20.75,531,20752
"https://caijing-img.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/thumbnail_167763719173383if5y_c58db18c4d.jpg","thumbnail_167763719173383if5y_c58db18c4d","thumbnail_167763719173383if5y.jpg",3.69,221,3691,"167763719173383if5y_c58db18c4d",33.83,"https://caijing-img.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/167763719173383if5y_c58db18c4d.jpg","2026-09-28T02:02:38.423Z",[967
922,"By now, most people accept that alternating between sitting and standing is better for the body, effectively relieving the musculoskeletal strain caused by a single posture (sitting or standing all day). Yet some people report that even after switching to sit-stand working, they still feel discomfort.

Looking into this problem, we found that the height to which the desk is raised is the key to the discomfort. So how high should a height-adjustable desk be set for the greatest comfort?

To answer this, the Yihang-Nanjing Forestry University Healthy Office Research Center studied the sitting and standing heights of height-adjustable desks from two angles: “comfort differences under different desk heights” and “the most suitable desktop height.”

![](https://caijing-img.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/1677577717551745_ZRI_5_8e07bbdfb9.jpg)

**If the desk is higher, is it really more comfortable?**

Field research by the center found that the desktop heights people choose for themselves on height-adjustable desks vary from person to person, and when people of different heights use the same desktop height, the same differences appear. These differences in desktop height produce the differences in working posture shown below.

![](https://caijing-img.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/1677577762637580_J4_JB_e43b8e7448.jpg)

The study of comfort differences under different desk heights used the RULA method (a common musculoskeletal disorder risk assessment method). By controlling for identical conditions, it analyzed the standing and sitting postures under the three heights shown above to evaluate postural load under the experimental conditions (a higher score indicates greater musculoskeletal discomfort from the posture). The data below was obtained:

![](https://caijing-img.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/1677577783815355_Gr_AP_a8229a74f7.jpg)

From the table above: when the desktop is too high (standing a and sitting A), the elbows take on a supporting posture and the shoulders and elbows ache; when the desktop is too low (standing c and sitting C), it not only causes cervical soreness but also prevents the forearms and wrists from relaxing. With the desktop at an appropriate height (standing b and sitting B), the body feels most comfortable.

What is the right desk height for both sitting and standing?

Based on the analysis above, the arms are likely the part of the body most affected by changes in desk height. We therefore conducted experiments using elbow height as the baseline (the desk height settings were determined from the range of heights participants themselves considered most comfortable, in cm) to analyze the influence of desktop height on sitting and standing comfort.

![](https://caijing-img.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/1677577807230330_Ju_LU_f1a1e72df3.jpg)

The study found that comfort ratings in both sitting and standing positions follow a parabolic curve as desk height decreases: comfort peaks when the height drops to a certain point, then falls to its lowest as the desk gets lower still.

Our experimental results found that people's judgments of their optimal desk height carry an average error of 22±12mm, with maximum judgment errors reaching 70mm!

![](https://caijing-img.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/1677577828909370c_Hdd_5818109b77.jpg)

Figure: Yihang UP7 sit-stand workstation

Conclusion: the most comfortable standing desk height is elbow height + 4cm; the most comfortable sitting desk height is elbow height + 8cm.

About the Yihang-Nanjing Forestry University Healthy Office Research Center

The Yihang-Nanjing Forestry University Healthy Office Research Center was jointly established by Yihang Technology Co., Ltd. and Nanjing Forestry University.
